Norton drafted for legal duty in MGM's 'War'

A mocked-up hipped-out remake of Tom Cruises Cocktails, Coyote Ugly lacked any appeal in terms of inspiration, direction, documentary value, or creativity.  We follow our heroine Violet (in front with white shirt) (Piper Perabo) from her small hometown in rural New York to the big city where she wants to become a big-time song writer.  She really wants to be a professional singer, but has a serious case of on-stage butterflies in the stomach.  Apparently, her mother had also moved to Manhattan but was also too nervous to make it big.  Like mother like daughter.  But when she gets to the Big Apple, she is met with one set-back after another, eventually causing her to beg for a job at a popular downtown bar.  Fortunately for her, one of the employees, Zoe (Tyra Banks) is quitting to go become a lawyer.  The rest of the movie basically goes like this: bar dancing, drunken fights, boyfriend troubles, fired, re-hired, dad mad at daughter.  Not much of a roller coaster ride here, just some back-and-forth editing between fun-loving bar scenes and romantic/family clichs.  High points: the ever lovable John Goodman as the father and some occasional funny stuff.  Low points: LeAnn Rhymes is in this movie!  Also, Tyra Banks is not in the movie nearly long enough.

My rating out of 10: 5
Rating: PG-13
