Welcome to Dreamcast Magic
Note: these pictures are in low resolution and the game looks much better on a TV.
Story: 9/10 Code Veronica picks up where the last three games left off and finally advances the story forward: Claire is off looking for her brother, and is captured by that villainous Umbrella Corporation. She's then shuttled off to an undisclosed island to rot away in an Umbrella ''prison''. In a moment of complete shock to even the most hardened Resident Evil fans, Claire sees release from captivity by her jailer because ... the hole island has been overrun by zombies. You better call shotgun because your going to need one. Graphics: 8/10 The Dreamcast takes it another step further, by creating crisp and rich graphics, with amazing detail. By far, the best graphics ever seen for any for the 4 RE game series. The FMVs are simply breathtaking. Seeing the opening movie is one that you'll leave you gasping for air. With lighting effects such as searching through the darkness by the soft glow of your lighter. The camera will pan like a movie, so that you cannot see what's behind the next corner. Walking around with movie-like camera movements will have you begging for mercy. The character models are realistic and move just like their real-life counterparts would. The games runs very smoothly, and there is no slow-down at all. My only gripe is that there is some fog deep in the background, but this is only used as a visual effect, not to hide pop-up. Key word here: Eye-Candy! Controls: 7/10 The controls are awkward when you first start off, mainly because the controls are different than from previous RE games. If you are used to the controls from the past games, you will have a difficult time adjusting. In time though, you will get used to it. The saying holds true "don't fix something that isn't broken". Sound: 8/10 The music and the sound effects are great. The save room music gives the same old comfort by adding a feeling of tranquility, a feeling you don't get outside those blood stained walls. The zombie sound effects are still there, and they sound as freaky as ever. Too bad the skinless zombies don't have the creepy sounds they did in Resident Evil 2. Certain sound effects of the game have been changed for the better from the previous RE games, too. For instance, doors have a different sound effect used when they are opened. The voices? Very good of course, anything is an improvment over the voice acting in the first Resident Evil. Replay Value: 7/10 The battle game (won after you beat the game) adds a whole extra quest onto the game. I think you'll be playing that more than the regular game, once you've unlocked it. However, don't get me wrong, the regular game is just as fun. The challenge may be lost when you play through it a second time, but that doesn't mean you won't have just as much of a good time but the scare factor greatly falls. Code Veronica is a very long and enticing game spread over two GDs filled with countless hours of terror and divertissement. The VMU displays your health which is remarkably helpful, so you dont have to go into the menu to check and see if you're about to die. You can combine items (I still have to play around with this) to make new ones, such as two green herbs make a mixed herb which gives you more health back. There are plenty of weapons to choose from, ranging from combat knives to flame throwers. Theres a lot to see and do in CV and if you have yet to play a survival horror game Id definitely recommend this one. Overall: 9/10 Code: Veronica will provide you with tons gameplay giving most newcomers and most veterans a challenging time. With near life like graphics, gorgeous sounds, and just an all around fun game, how could you go wrong? Every Dreamcast owner should be sure to pick it up today. History: none
