| In this months article I will discuss games that because Sega going 3rd party and stopping Dreamcast production never saw the light of day. The reasons vary from fearing low sales; poor quality to 9/11 but one thing is the same, they were never released. Page: 1 , 2 , 3 Toe Jam & Earl III In the first years of the Genesis, two funky aliens had an accident while cruising the galaxy and crashed down to earth. After these events, ToeJam & Earl was born and if it had not been for a certain blue hedgehog, ToeJam & Earl could have been the best game on the Genesis and perhaps the Sega mascots. For many gamers ToeJam & Earl is the best two-player game ever released for the Sega Genesis. With its random level feature and two-player mode, gamers spent countless hours playing the game again and again. The first game was followed by "Ready-Aim-Tomatoes" and then, proving most sequels suck, came ToeJam & Earl II: Panic on Funkotron. Years later fans craved a good sequel to the Genesis hit, and it was going to happen. The basis of the story to TJ&E3 revolves around the Twelve Sacred Albums of Funk. The sacred albums have been stolen and its up to TJ&E to travel to Earth, once again, and recover them for Lamont, the great Funkopotamous. It featured two player co-operative mode and the randomly generated levels just like the others that added great replay value to the game. But why was it cancelled: It was first rumored in October 1999 to be coming to the Dreamcast. Finally in January 2001 Sega confirmed Toe Jam and Earl III, was actually in the works. Then in August 2001 Toe Jam And Earl III's cancellation began to be rumor. Rumor stated that Toe Jam And Earl III had been cancelled for the Dreamcast, in order to bring it to other next-gen consoles. To make it worse a reported letter sent to them indicated that development of Toe Jam and Earl III was really cancelled. In the end it was cancelled because of Sega's marketing dept. they just didn't feel it was a "good idea". In other words the weren't sure it would sell good, and with its name alone it no doubt, would have done good.. But in Fall 2002 it was released on the Xbox and it was a hit on it, just like the Dreamcast version would have been if released. Sadly since the games release on the Xbox, the ToeJam & Earl III team has disbanded and the files were unable to be found. But thanks to ToeJam & Earl Productions for giving important info about the game and why it was cancelled. |
