Welcome to Dreamcast Magic
In this months article I will discuss the never released game of Shenmue for the Sega Saturn.  While we will never play Shenmue: Saturn Version, somehow that fact doesn't make the following screenshots any less amazing.  Though the game indeed appears to be running in a Saturn-friendly resolution, it is unclear whether the system is simply "off the shelf" or whether any additional hardware or modifications have been used to achieve the results.  It seems obvious that the 4MB RAM card would be needed, but what is more surprising are the amounts of polygons being thrown around (there's even a facial animation system implemented).  Sure, it may not be running at 30fps (looks more like 15-20 or so), but this level of quality is still extremely impressive and it was not complete who knows how far they could have stretched the graphics.
As you can see the up close screenshots show how much detail these characters were given and in the day of the Saturn it would be like seeing Sonic Adventure after playing pong all your life.  But the time wasn't right or the system for this great game and it is good fortune that it and its sequel have ended up on the Dreamcast, which could handle its amazing graphics.
