Terms and Definitions
Invoking
To call forth in a space and/or yourself energy from the Higher Realms (Godhead, Deity, Angels).

 
Envoking
To call forth in a space, not ourselves, energy from our realm and the Lower Realms (parts of ourselves; Watchers, Elementals -- elementals are ususally summoned to the outside of the circle.

  
Banishing
To assertively send energy away from a specific area and ourselves anything which has been Envoked from our level or below.

  
Deosil
Clockwise (with the sun, with Gods or Deities seal of approval).

  
Widdershins
Counterclockwise (against the sun or Earthwise -- to wither or to remove).

 
Watchers
The 4 cardinal points of the Circle on our level or below.

Watchtowers
The 4 cardinal points of the Circle on the higher realms.

Colours
East -- Air -- Yellow
South -- Fire -- Red
West -- Water -- Blue
North -- Earth -- Green/Brown

Circle
A boundary of Sacred Space usually circular in shape which may for necessity be sometimes elongated.  However, it may not contain any right angles.

Sacred Space
A sanctified area which has been prepared for Magical working.

Protection
To guard and defend against unwanted vibtations.

Cone of Power
A method of focusing the energy of an individual or group for a purpose or goal and/or to provide an energy connection with the divine.

Energy
The primal or Celestial force used in magic which is individually generated and can be combined with others to form a group power (i.e. cone of power).

Focus
To direct energy to a specific destination or goal.

Qabalistic Cross
A method of doing many things, one of which is to ground and center an individual's or group's energy.

Grounding
To release unwanted or excess energy from oneself.

Center
A rebalancing of the aura and chakras after the grounding process.

Pentagram
A five pointed star representing the 4 elements in balance with spirit.

Pentacle
A physical representation of the pentagram.  When worn it is with spirit pointing up to signify man's progress towards spiritual perfection.

Portal
An opening between two planes of existence which allows energies to enter for a specific purpose.  (i.e. watchtowers, watcher, quarters, elementals, etc.)

Microcosm
The world/earth/people (i.e. the material plane).

Macrocosm
The heavens/Gods/astral (i.e. the spiritual plane).

Karma
The universal law of cause and effect.  The teacher of Lessons.

Ceremonial Magic
A technical and ritualistic system of magic based on the Qabalistic Tree of Life and the Golden Dawn.  Used for the attainment of contact with the Higher Self or the Hold Guardian Angels.

High Magic
A form of magic whose main purpose is spiritual evolution as opposed to material gain.  (Works primarily with Deity energies).

Earth Magic
A form of magic which works primarily with the energies of the Earth (elemental) and the use of your own energy to manifest something for a purpose.

Note on Magic
Both High and Earth systems generally recognize the need for the integration of both systems to achieve balance.  (i.e., man's need for both spiritual and material evolution).

Consecration
To cleanse an item of all vibrations and then bless and instill a focused energy with a goal.  (i.e. any object used for a magical purpose).

Spell
A work of magic, which, through ritual, the power of the mind is combined with the powers of the universe and used to manipulate and channel energy to create changes within the self and environment.

How a Spell Works
The spell conditions the mind step by step forming a focus and catalyst for the portion of the brain which enables one to create changes in the astral substance.

As above, so below
As the universe, so the soul
As without, so within
Let this magic rite begin.


Amulet
Passive in nature, always a protection.

Talisman
Active in nature, brings to you or repels from you.

Note on Amulets and Talismans
Both amulets and talismans may be made of any sympathetic substance. (i.e. stones, herbs, inscribed sigils and glyphs, metals, etc.)

Poppet
A specially prepared cloth doll.  A simple rough figure cut from two pieces of cloth and sewn together or bound pieces of straw/corn husks made into the shape of a doll/figure and stuffed with herbs that represent a person or situation for magical workings of healing, love, dreams, etc.
