Joey Zhou, age 14 (as of 2/10/2001), won the grand prize of The Juanita Miller 2001 State Youth Competition, which is organized by TASO (Texas Association for Symphony Ochetras) on 1/27/2001 .

    Joey was born in ChongQing, China and moved to the United States in 1990 at age four. He began his piano study at age six with Yang Jiang and four years later became a student of YiFan Liu. Joey has been a winner in numerous competitions in the North Texas and nation wide such as

- First place in the SunRay North Texas Youth Competition for five consecutive years (1993-1997), including Grand Prize in 1997.

- First place in the Dallas Symphonic Festival in 1995, 1996, and 1998.He played Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1, 1st movement with SMU Meadows Symphony Orchestra on 3/18/98.

- First place in the Collin County Young Artist Competition in 1997 and 1999.He won Grand prize in 1999 and played Schumann Piano Concerto in A minor 1st movement with Plano Symphony Orchestra on 3/20/99.

- First Place in the Lee Biannual Piano Competition, Augustana College,SiouxFalls, South Dakota, in 1998.

-He was also invited to play the Mozart Piano Concerto No. 21, 3rd Movement with the Plano Symphony Orchestra on 2/17/2000 and 2/18/2000 .

As a straight "A" student, Joey is a 10th grader at J.J. Pearce High School in the RISD. He is a member of the Student Council Cabinet.Joey enjoys playing computer, reading novels, swimming and skiing
