Pittsburgh Forward Martin Straka Breaks Leg Sunday October 28, 2001 10:10 PM PITTSBURGH (AP) - Martin Straka, the Pittsburgh Penguins' leading scorer, broke his right leg Sunday night in a game against the Florida Panthers. The left wing was injured when his leg stuck in the ice as he was being knocked down by Florida's Lance Ward about seven minutes into the second period. Straka, who leads the club with nine points - five goals and four assists - in 11 games, will be out indefinitely. The injury occurred just as the Penguins were announcing that Mario Lemieux will undergo arthroscopic surgery Monday on his right hip. Lemieux missed his third game of the season and is expected to be sidelined 3-to-4 weeks. The Penguins are already without forward Alexei Kovalev, who had arthroscopic knee surgery two weeks ago. He has not yet been cleared to skate.
