Penguins sign veteran Francois Leroux Jul 16, 2002 12:32 PM (EDT) PITTSBURGH (AP) - Francois Leroux, an enforcer who previously spent time with the Penguins, signed with Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Terms of the contract were not released. The 32-year-old defenseman had one goal, 10 assists and a team-leading 110 penalty minutes with the Berlin Capitals in Germany last season. Leroux had two goals, 14 assists and 356 penalty minutes in 165 games with the Penguins from 1994-1997. He was traded to Colorado in 1997 for a third-round pick in the 1998 entry draft. In 249 career NHL games, Leroux has 23 points and 577 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-6 Quebec native was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the 1988 entry draft.
