Penguins Sign Aubin, Morozov Tuesday July 31, 2001 6:07 PM PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Penguins agreed to terms Tuesday with goalie Jean-Sebastien Aubin and forward Aleksey Morozov. Morozov, 24, signed a one-year qualifying offer for $726,000 that required a 10-percent raise over last season's salary of $660,000. The right wing wasn't eligible for salary arbitration this year, but will be at the conclusion of his contract. Terms of Aubin's contract weren't released by the Penguins, and his agent, John W. "Jay" Fee, did not immediately return a call by the Associated Press. Aubin, 24, made $700,000 last season and played in 36 games - splitting time mostly with Garth Snow due to injuries and stretches of inconsistency. Johan Hedberg finished the regular season in goal and led the Penguins to the Eastern Conference finals where they were eliminated by the New Jersey Devils. Aubin played 36 games and was 20-14-1 with a 3.13 goals-against average - the first Penguins goalie since Ken Wregget in 1994-95 and 1995-96 to win 20 games in consecutive seasons. Morozov had five goals and 14 assists in 66 games and is considered a skilled underachiever who never built on a promising rookie season. He was selected 24th in the 1995 draft and made his NHL debut with a goal against the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 1, 1997. Morozov finished with 13 goals and 26 points in 76 games as a rookie. Aubin was taken with the 76th pick in the 1995 draft. In 17 games with the Penguins in 1998-99, Aubin was 4-3-6 with a 2.22 GAA. In 1999-2000, he was 23-21-3 with a 2.58 GAA and a .914 save percentage in 51 games.
