Cretaceous Ammonites
Predators of the Bearpaw Sea....when Albertans didn't have to travel a 1000 kms to get to the beach
Ammonite identification has been both helped and burdened with past studies. 'Splitters', or new spieces namers have often been challenged by 'Lumpers'...those who believe the taxonomy has been too complicated by 'false' species..

Acanthoscaphites

Eutrephoceras dekayi. A nautiloid found in 'Ammonite' beds. Its descendants have survived to modern times wheras ammonites perished in the Cretaceous.

cheyennensis
Round quarter-sized 'wounds' found on Placenticeras were once thought to be Mosasuar tooth marks. These wounds are now thought to be 'scars' left by the Limpid... a clinging gastropod.
Sphenodiscus sp.
Placenticeras meeki. These  large ammonites provide the mineral 'ammolite' prized in jewellry making.
Acanthoscaphites sp.
Baculites compressus. These straight ammonites are 'key fossils in biostratigrapy ... studies that  identify geologic sequence.
