Jody's Words

Jody communicated unlike anyone before or since.
Here we collect his words, those spoken and written
and those he put to music.

Jody Quotes

"When you live in a society like Saratoga, there's not a whole lot
to rebel against."

Regarding his songs: "All mine are about boy meets girl, boy loses
girl, or boy can't even get girl. I can't write about anything that's
fictional."

(From a May, 1984, San Jose Mercury News article about The Esoterics.
Thanks to Brandy Parris for this material.)

Whenever a San Francisco Giants team member hit one out
of the park: "That's a well hit ball, deep, way back, warning tracks,
he turns, he watches, gone! Giants!"

(Thanks to James Revell for the memory.)

Lyrics

Life In a Jar

(recorded Summer, 1987, with John Roberts and Mike Revell)

If there be rain
Then I'm not going out today
If no one listens to my pleas
Then it will be no use to stay

Because it seems they don't know my name
They smile at me just the same
Beneath these black clothes lies a young man chasing his dreams

If I could cry
Then possibly I'd see the truth
Maybe I'd have a girl instead
Of Woody Allen's point of view

You see that Romeo made a mistake
When Juliet was his find
He really should have stayed with Rosaline

And I know that I won't have to get very far
To find the reason why my life's encased in a jar
I've been there before
I think I've opened the door
But I return to my life encased in a jar

Desmond

There was a boy named Desmond
He was content with life, he was alone
He knew he'd lead a safe life
He only wanted somebody to share his throne
Desmond all but gave up, we thought he was gay

Then came the girl from Berkeley
Desmond didn't even make a move
She showed him to her garden
And painted tainted pictures he approved
Desmond was in heaven, he even called his mum

At first she never left his side
He never hurt her never lied
Poor young Desmond
She said she loved him oh so much
He turned to butter with her touch
Poor young Desmond

Nothing seemed to please her
She only smiled when Desmond drew her face
Here was this man of honor
Who lost his innocence to leather and lace
Desmond he stopped calling, he lit a cigarette

There was a boy named Desmond
He was content with life, he was alone
He knew he'd lead a safe life
He wanted someone there to share his throne

Emails to John Loken, early December, 1998

Dearest LOKENFACTORY,

The young one's name is Camille Renee. I see her about 50%
of the time....And, as matter of fact, I sing early-period Beatles
as well as Split Enz, 10CC, KD Lang...("Time for Teletubbies...Time for Teletubbies") She will know you as Uncle John--and there will be much rejoicing...

I am now the proud owner of a Buick Skylark.
Smmmoooooothhh... (GO USA!!!!)

I really want to start a pop-rock group with Edfarb & Andy, seeing as
a move to L.A. is becoming more and more imminent. I would prefer that
you oversee such a product (producing, etc.). I miss your ass
(truthfully).

Give my love to all the LA. contingent (Bertolotti, etc.). Don't ever hit your mother with a shovel--it leaves a dull impression on her.

Ross and I are angry young bachelors.

Luv ya,

Joseph Paul Constantine Dokes

John,

this is Dokes--Divorced, full of Prozac, AND LOVIN' IT!

Have you the slightest interest in my daughter and I?

My best to yourself as well as Margie and the world famous JACK!

I operate a out-dated MAC SE, so this message is via "The under-fed
Baboon Jesus"

LOVE ME! JOSEPH "JODY" AUGUSTINO "FRITO"-FRISCIA AND I WILL
LIVE FOREVER!!

(It's time for Mr. Friscia's medication...)
