What I think about my school..?

To be honest, S.M.K.Lutong wasn't really my dream choice of a secondary school. I had a very bad impression of the school with all the uncontrolllable students and fightings I'd heard about when I was in primary 6. I had applied to go to St.Columba together with some friends, and my UPSR results were quite good too. Me n Lissa's names were on the name list for St.Co but somehow due to last minute decisions (too far la, not many frens going there la, school too small la, etc.), we ended up in SMKL!

During our first days in our new school we poured out our sorrows to each other... SMKL was HUGE, but looked rather bare and tattered. We got lost in the school compound itself on the first few days! Shya had wanted to go to Chung Hua, and I was still kicking myself for not going to St.Co. During orientation week we had no idea what was going on. Most of our new classmates spoke Malay and being from Chinese primary schools, it was very hard to communicate. Not many spoke English either, and although it was fairly easy for me to make lots of new friends, I had trouble conversing in Malay. Our new principal, Nicholas Yii (from St.Joe), however, promised us a brighter future.

After studying in SMKL for more than 4 years, I've started to feel differently about my school. There may not be many English-speaking students, but on the other hand, my Malay has improved tremendously. I realized that we have some of the best senior teachers too. If only our students had the brains of those studying in Chung Hua or other brighter schools, I'm confident we'd be much better than they are! I know I'm really gonna miss my teachers after I leave school, esp. Miss Eileen (BM), Miss Yee (FZ), En. Abu Bakar (MT), Ms. Lydia Lu (BI), Mr.Lee Hou Giap (BIO), Cik. Zuraida (KM), Miss Wendy (Interact), etc. etc.... even the toilet jaga who seems to be rather fond of me n Micheal. (Her niece is sooo cute!!) I wish I could list them all!!

Another aspect of our school that's worth to be proud of is the school's  landscape and its facilities! Lots of beautiful trees n flowers, a lovely fountain surrounded by convenient pondoks for students to relax or revise their homework. An open air hall, a big closed hall, basketball court, football field, hockey field, volleyball court n badminton court (in the hall), hostels, 3 senior labs with tons of equipment and interesting stuff, 4 junior labs, an art 'studio', an agricultural block (complete with chickens n jagung patches!), a clean, tiled toilet, etc. etc... We've also got one of those really powerful microscopes belonging to the Biology dept. which Mr.Lee likes to brag about (there's only two in Miri and it costed a heap...) Our ERT block is really luxurious compared to some other schools' which I've seen-  And our canteen in just so HUGE and always smelling of great (and really delicious food- rice, kueh, mee, laksa, etc. etc.! Esp. the Chicken rice... MMMMmmMM...) I could never make up my mind what to have during recess.

One thing SMKL seriously lacks... students who really appreciate being able to study in such a great school!!
