~ Christine in a nutshell:- Holy, crazy, friendly and full of fun!
Our families went to Labuan together
during the holidays when I was about 8 / 9 years old. During that time,
my most memorable moment was when my dad pulled us along in our inflatable
boat in the shallow sea, we were shrieking at the jellyfish floating past
us.
We were in the same class in Primary
4, but it wasn't until P5 that we started spending more time with each
other. She had the same crazy, cartoonish ideas that I had, we both fail
Chinese and we both love dancing, doodling, stickers, rollerblading, English,
Christian stuff, scouting, climbing trees, playing frisbee and hundreds
of other things.
Being a scout became part of our lives.
Together with Syndiana, we invented dance routines and soon became steady
friends. On most afternoons, we would gather in the school hall to practice
our dances for the upcoming scout camp and perform the dance during the
campfire.
Most of our time was spent together
after extra-classes in the afternoon. I'd bring my frisbee, or she would
bring a Christian game. We would also go to the playground, where we'd
teach each other and try new tricks on the monkey bar, or just simply sit
down in the shade and chat.
In 1996, we attended a Youth Leadership
Camp organized by the Toastmasters Club. We were among the youngest there.
We were put in the same room, on the same bunk. During the wee hours of
the morning, we weren't asleep yet! While the older teens crowded in the
next room sharing ghost stories, the two of us jumped up and down on our
beds like mad, flashing our torchlights everywhere in the dark room, and
ended up squeezing and sleeping together on the upper deck of the bunk.
Sometimes, I felt like Chris was almost
my missing twin! We shared so many secrets, interests and activities...
until we went to different secondary schools. She'll always have a special
place in my heart!
