To Day I Went For A Visit

Today my mind went for a visit back to my old home town
I walked along the road to where my uncle and aunt use to live
I wanted to re-live the days in my mind
With the beloved two people I so loved

I wandered back in my mind along the dusty road
To a home so full of love, where they once lived
I seem to smell the aroma of home baked rolls
And hear the laughter flowing from my sweet aunt.

My minds eye could see the family gathered around
The table: with thanksgiving for the goodness of the Lord
Then I could see my Dad and Mom so happy to be visiting
My sister and her family, all gathered laughing so happily.

The years has taken a toll on the old place
The paint is all gone, the old house looked sad an gray
The yard had no pretty flowers blooming
The grass was withered and brown.

The house that once was so glistening white
Seemed to say, I use to hold a family so happy here
I reached to dry a falling tear from my eyes
As I walked away from this treasured old home.

I will always remember the uncle and aunt
Whom I loved to visit as a child growing up
The yesterday’s of my life will live on in my memory
Of my younger years and the visits to the old place that use to be a home.
