12/30/99--In the spirit of Y2K being around the corner, I reviewed the apocalpyse movie "The Seventh Sign". Also did a review for "In the Mouth of Madness". These two movies have something in common, but what???

My predictions of the year 2000: There will definitely be a number of computer-related problems and some short-term chaos. Programmers are not infallible, and often programming involves a lot of trial and error. I know this all too well since I have made programs using three different computer languages. However, the human factor will be worse. It only takes a few @$$holes to mess things up for the rest of us. The government knows this. No doubt opportunists--be it politicians, lawyers, terrorists, or thieves--will take advantage of the problem while it lasts and may even try to prolong it. Also, there will probably be a massive influx of immigrants into the U.S. since Y2K is bound to hit some other countries hard (I read somewhere that some developing nations like Mexico are hardly doing anything about the Y2K problem). If that's the case, then tensions among ethnic groups are likely to increase as well. As modern American history has proved, it doesn't take much to start a riot either. Now is not the time to be blase. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm staying home with my fingers crossed on New Year's Eve.
