Here we go again!! Well, we have decided our next trip-it will be a 1 month tour of England, with stops in Scotland, Wales and France. We have been doing a lot of homework, reading, visiting our travel agent for advice and web surfing to find the best way to accomplish this trip. Our itinerary is tentively as follows:
9-2, 8:30 pm Fly non-stop from LAX to Heathrow, arrive 9-3, 2:45 pm London time 9-3 thru 9-6 London sightseeing, staying in Hyde Park near Kensington Palace 9-6 thru 9-27 Rent car and drive all through England, Scotland and Wales, staying in privately owned B&B's (people's homes), ending in London 9-27 morning Take the chunnel from London to Paris, 3 hour train ride under the English Channel 9-27 thru 10-1 Paris sightseeing, staying at hotel across from the Louve 10-1 thru 10-3 Disneyland Paris, staying at Disney's Sante Fe hotel near park gate 10-3, afternoon One hour flight back to Heathrow, then fly non-stop to LAX
We were able to get some incredible deals through our agent and British Airways. We booked a 3 night London, 3 night Paris package that included airfare, hotels, transfers, and travel between London and Paris for the price of airfares alone that are posted on their website. British Airways also had a "go as you please" program. For just $39 a night, you pick any accomodations you want from a book listing 2,000 B&B's. We call the day before to book the next night, so our itinerary is going to be very flexible-just wherever we end up for the night!! We have checked out some of the B&B websites, and they all look really nice. British Airways were very flexible, and broke up the London/Paris stays so we could drive around England for 22 days and stay 2 nights in Disneyland. They also arranged for a rental car, a Ford Focus, oh boy, fun for Terry to drive on the left side of the road, but he says he doesn't mind!! We will buy a "Heritage Pass" that covers admission prices to most English sites and museums. Paris also has their version which I think we will buy as well. With all the major travel arrangements booked, we still need to decide exactly which route to drive and what sights to see. There is so much history, castles, gardens, and beautiful countryside. Below is a map of our approximate route.
We are Back!!!!! We had an absolutely dream trip of a lifetime. We loved it and saw so many awesome sights! I'm sorting through the 2500 digital pictures we took. I am making Powerpoint slide shows and there is a lot of sorting and organizing. I don't know when I will have some web pages finished-it will be hard to decide which pictures to post. Check back mid-November, hopefully some pages will be here.
