  • Visited with Washington State Gov. Gary Locke in Olympia, where he was honored with a proclaimation making Thursday 3/14/02, "Apolo Ohno Day" in the state.
  • Appeared at a noontime Rally held for him at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle, where Mayor Greg Nickels, honored him with a proclaimation making Friday, 3/15/02 "Apolo Ohno Day" in Seattle.
    King County Executive Ron Sims, also proclaimed the same day "Apolo Ohno Day", in King County.
  • Apolo also was the Guest of Honor at the Seattle Supersonics vs. the Washington Wizards game later that night - Friday, 3/15/02
    It was his first Sonics game, (unfortunately, the Sonics lost).
    While he was there, Apolo helped Sonics mascot "Squatch" give away free T-shirts to the fans, by throwing them up into the stands.
    (It was awfully fun to see him do that on the local telecast of the game).

  • Apolo acted as the Grand Marshal for the 2002 Southwest Airlines Seafair Torchlight Parade in downtown Seattle - 7/27/02. He and his father Yuki rode in a red corvette.
  • Apolo threw out the first pitch before the Seattle Mariners game at Safeco Field - 7/28/02
  • Apolo helped with the coin toss in the first game the Seattle Seahawks played at their new stadium vs. the Indianapolis Colts - 8/10/02
  • Apolo attended the annual Seattle Post-Intelligencer's Sports Stars of the Year banquet as one of the nominees - 1/27/03.
    He lost out to the Seattle Mariner's starting pitcher Jamie Moyer.
