Brotherly Love

When I get to heaven I'll have brothers
Because I never had a brother here.
They grab my heart and slip into my prayers,
Surprising me with laughter, and with joy.

My husband needn't worry,
There's no romance here.
There's only just my darling band of brothers:
The quiet one with deep and gentle eyes -
The nut who keeps me laughing at his antics
Until I'm silenced by his quest for God -
The one who seems so like me that I wonder
Why he isn't really my brother here.

To one I'm the big sister, there to counsel,
To one I'm the adoring little sis
Who watches what he does and tries to copy
In laughing admiration of all he is.
The quiet one I love in awe and wonder,
Schooling my heart to gentleness like his.

Dear Lord, I do forgive You
My lack of any brothers here below,
But there in heaven won't You let them know me,
These brothers I've collected on the sly?
