Wassail Bowl

From Norma's Kitchen

Wassail is a drink, but the word comes from the time in England when the Saxon lords and ladies cried out while caroling: "Was Haile," meaning "Be of good health."

1 gallon apple cider or juice
1 cup light or dark brown sugar (packed)
1 can frozen lemonade concentrate
1 Tablespoon whole cloves
1 can frozen orange juice concentrate
1 tablespoon whole allspice
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
6 to 8 sticks cinnamon (optional)

In large kettle, combine cider, brown sugar and undiluted lemonade and orange juice. Tie cloves and allspice in cheesecloth and cinnamon sticks (if desired), also nutmeg. Add to cider. Simmer covered about 20 minutes. Remove and discard spice bag. Serve hot in punch cups. Makes 24 cups.
(What a delightful holiday drink, and your guest and family will think you are special for serving it).
