| Travelling Southbound on the MI on a Friday afternoon is not to be recommended. Sitting on a fairly hot day in a jam in an 18 year old air cooled van, panicking about overheating reminded me of all those years of owning 75 motors not knowing whether any journey would be completed successfully. No serious problems apart from a sore throat f ing at those motorists who believe cha~ging lanes every 25 yards shortens journey time. Arrived at the campsite around 5pm to be greeted by many of the usual early arrivals, and some not so well known for skiving Fridays.Nevertheless, it was obvious a good turnout was likely as others would arrive over the next few hours. Parked up, opened beer and mingled.(Found out later what I should have been doing was making beds and preparing the camper van for the imminent arrival of the lovely Anya, arriving after an horrendous journey up from our lovely capital city). The track had already been laid out and all preparations were well in hand for the weekend to run smoothly. The only slight problem was the realisation that the name "Discovery" means they won't 9 up a slope of more than 20 degrees unless pulled bya Japanese copy costing half as much. Johnny is now deciding whether to part exchange this vehicle or just let his Mrs drive it properly. Realising the limits of my mechanicing ability, and spotting 4 willing volunteers who looked desperate to be included in the group I presented a large box to them and left them to it; moments later a gleaming gas barbeque was delivered back to me you know it's charitable gestures like those that saves millions of people from starvation each year. Friday was an evening of drink and chat. It was nice to see the first German entry at a SCORR event, an impressive looking machine strong enough to withstand armour piercing rounds and Jason getting in and out of it. Fully swasika'd up by the following morning,it ran well all we~kend only occasionally pulling to the right, but that must have been the draw towards Poland. Of course Mr Schumacher and his buddies were awake at around 5.45am and brewing up, chatting and towel placing long before the English contingent had stirred after the previous night of drinking "wife beater" (Stella Artoitoise) to excess. Amazingly most were up and raring to 90, on time, at 10am.Usual meeting for drivers, and welcome to the Sale Posse, the gang of four who had saved me from Bobby Sands' fate only the evening before; and other new faces. Judging by the tunes coming from their car wireless, (you know, the ones without a noticeable melody), the Manny lads must have been younger than me, but they deserve a huge thanks for all the help they gave and it would be great to see them at future events. There have been rumours circulating that in these reports I don't say enough about the actual racing at these events OK, there wasn't any. It was time trials. The course was tough and hard under wheel, but very enjoyable and times were very close. Nuff said. There have been rumours circulating that these reports are not as interesting to those SCORR members who are not at the meetings. The answer to that's easy f**king well come. You're all very welcome, and judging by the way some of the people can or can't drink that do attend, it's probably not before time that some proper atheletes come to one or two meets. Talking of proper atheletes, then there was the Saturday evening. I'm afraid having tried to |
