The other day I picked up this dvd at Wal-mart for a dollar. Gotta love when they re-release things cheap like that. At least, that's what I think it was. Judging by the names in the credits and characters, I think this movie was based in India. It was made in Hong Kong. It's styled like anime though. It wasn't the best movie I'd ever seen, but I enjoyed it's folk-story flavor, and was inspired to give this little-known piece of animation a fanpage. Please enjoy the links, character bios, pictures, and spoiler movie synopsis on the bottom. Don't read it if you don't want to know what happens.

Characters

Princess Mayang Sari - The princess who wears white. She thinks for herself and does her own thing. She's very loving and in control.

Green Princess - very close to Sari. Demure and calm. Older than Sari, I think.

Batara Kandra - the brown-eyed of twin brothers. Totally identical to his brother, aside from eye-color and attitude. He's much calmer, fights defensively, and is very spiritual.

Mega Kandra - The green-eyed of the twin brothers. His attitude is much more aggressive, he fights offensively, and can't seem to meditate very well. He wants power.
Monsters - have a forest, like to fight, and respect Sari highly.

Chatter

While searching for information on the movie, here's some things I've stumbled across. There's a myth that takes place at a cave in Myanmar (Burma), about seven princesses that go to a nearby lake to bathe. They take too long so it gets dark. They go to a cave to sleep. They're taken hostage by a giant spider who traps them with a web. A prince comes and saves them, winning the hand of the prettiest princess in marriage. For more about it, go here.
There's a beach resort called Mayang Sari in Indonesia. More on the resort.
Batara is a very popular name. It shows up in both history and mythology. Easily too many times for me to list... Kandra is too. And there are literally hundreds of myths and folktales about two brothers. I'll be doing research and trying to narrow them down though.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead!!!!!

Brief Overview

There are 7 princesses; a red one, a blue one, a lighter blue one, a pink one, a gray/black one, a white one and a green one.

The green princess became a mortal man's lover, so her father, king of the immortals, banished her.

The white princess, Mayang Sari, left because she disagreed with their father's wishes and wanted to stay with the green princess.

To keep the white princess's spirit pure, green princess sent her in the other direction on earth. She said hers wasn't pure anymore. They exchanged their shawls and many tears.

Sari casts a spell over the water to figure out where she should go. It reveals a gold castle. She travels for a long, long, long time until she reaches the forest of monsters, where the castle is.

The monsters surrounded her and asked her to be their queen. So became queen of the monsters in the monster forest, because of her beauty, immortality, purity, and power.

the monsters are as follows;
there's a blue sea monster
there's a red human monster, like an oni
there's a big tiger monster
a gray gargoyle-ey bat monster
a darker gray ogre-ey monster

Two brothers learn of a queen in the forest of monsters. They're told by their sword master that if they gain her sword, they'll have a lot of power and become special, higher warriors.

They both travel on spirit-pegasuses. Mega rides a red one. Batara rides a white one.

Mega fought monsters on a physical plain, thought he'd beat one, and walked away. He protects Batara's body while Batara meditates to learn about the queen and the sword.

Batara's soul goes to the castle of the monsters, where he fights some of them on the spiritual plain and wins.

Sari showed Batara around and said, "we can share all this fortune, you and me, if you stay." *poof* they fall in love.

Back where Batara's body is, Mega's worried about him.

Batara and Sari make a baby *poof!* then he heads back to his physical body

Earthquake!

The sword appears in front of Batara and Sari's shawl is around his waist

Mega tries to grab the sword.

Batara wakes up and says "Hands off, that's mine."

"I protected you while you meditated! I deserve it!" says Mega.

They fight, leap around, and break stones...

for a very long time...

Mega uses force and anger, Batara uses focus and concentration, only blocking.

Batara wraps the shawl around his hand then punches Mega. Mega's hat falls off as he flies backwards in defeat.

Mega says, "I protected you! Don't I deserve something?"

Batara picks up the sword and offers it to Mega.

Mega gets on his horse and leaves.

Sari, appears with their baby.

Batara says," I have to go defeat my brother..."

Sari says," be careful, you can't defeat him, you can only change his mind. you guys must reunite. I'll wait here with our baby."

Back in the human kingdom that the brothers came from, Batara prepares to fight his brother, missing his wife and baby.

...

and it ends...

that's it...

there's no more...

wierd lack-of-ending...
