Cactus Jake is a botanist and the deputy of Snakebite Falls. His parents loved the cactus, hence the first name. After six sheriffs bit the dust, Flint Deadwood came in and saved him from having been the next one (the town mandates that ?????after seven sheriffs the deputy has to step up). Needless to say he is the grateful sidekick.
