Still Life Paintings from 2001
Back to Paintings
All of these paintings were made from water-soluable oil paints on canvas. The difference between regular oils and water-soluable oils is that regular oils can only be thinned using turpentines.  Water soluables are mixable also with water in addition to turpenoids (safer for the environment).  Water soluables tend to dry quicker than regular oils, but both remain wet enough to work on as long as the paint remains wet.

These paintings were made in my first painting class at Saddleback college.  We had actual still life arrangements set for about a month for us to paint twice a week at three hours a day.  The third painting is a master copy from Chardin.  I enojyed doing that painting to compare how i mixed color from previous real life still lives to how i mixed color to match a printed piece of artwork. I was able to see for myself how many colors surround us and reflect in infinite directions.
