NINE ALDERMEN ARRESTED.
Mayor Saemann, of Sheboygan, Accuses Them
of Conspiracy to Oust Him.
[Special Dispatch to The Sentinel.]
Sheboygan, Wis., Aug. 13. Like a clap of thunder out of a clear sky to-day came the arrest of the nine aldermen who had last night voted for the impeachment of Mayor Saemann. The mayor made the complaint and caused their arrest on a charge of conspiracy to oust him from his office, and slander. He lays his damages at $5,000, and holds the aldermen personally liable to this amount. The order of arrest was signed by County Judge Williams, who fixed the bail for their appearance at $500 each. The names of the arrested parties are Wilbur M. Root, Charles Lutze, Jacob Hildebrand, Peter Rommelfanger, Fred C. Runge, August Warnecke, Albert Wendt, Fred Telgener and Herman Mehrtens. The complaint charges them with having held secret meetings with closed doors and plotted for the ousting of the mayor, and sets forth that Root was the ringleader in the plot. The aldermen have all given bail and are at liberty. The arrests have caused intense excitement among the citizens. Public sympathy is with the mayor.

THE IMPEACHMENT STOPPED.
An Injunction Served on the Common
Council of Sheboygan.
Sheboygan, Wis., Aug. 18. The common council met in extraordinary session last night, the time set for the trial of Mayor John M. Saemann, charged with malfeasance in office. The complaint was read by the city attorney. Attorney Timlin, of Milwaukee, the mayors counsel, addressed the aldermen claiming that the charges preferred could not be sustained. Ald. Halsted then moved that the mayor be exonerated and the charges dismissed. Defeated by a vote of 6 to 9.
Injunctions were then served by Court Commissioner A. C. Prescott, setting forth conspiracy and other offenses against the prosecuting aldermen. The republicans set up a loud cheer when the discomfited councilmen adjourned. An effort will be made to have Judge Gilson hear arguments next week for setting aside the injunction.
