How it all began...

Who would have ever dreamt that reading bedtime stories of The Gingerbread man to 2 little boys would have led to the setting up of Joanna's Treats? Formed in June 2006, our mission is to share quality home baked goodies to our family, friends and loved ones. And we would like to share that with you. Especially for parents who would like to bring the Gingerbread man alive for their little ones.

Like we said, it all started with the story of the Gingerbread man....

Every night we made a point to read our 2 young sons (then 2 & 3 years old) bedtime stories. When we read them the Gingerbread man story, they persistently asked us for them. Joanna wanted to make the story "come alive" for them to nurture an interest in stories and hopefully, cultivate their interest for reading eventually. But NO ONE sells Gingerbread man when it's not Christmas season! So we prayed and God is Great!

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

Through Joanna's good friend, Cookie Monster, God gave her the recipe and after some hunting at at least 5 store/shops, she found the ever elusive Gingerbread man cookie cutters! You can't imagine how excited she got!

That was the beginning of our OWN Gingerbread man story.... the boys wanted to share the fun with their little friends. The excitement when the little ones show it to their parents/guardians shouting.... "Look, I've got a Gingerbread man! Timothy gave it to me!" or "Mummy, a Gingerbread man! Joshua gave me!" Those smiles, such innocence... no amount of money could ever buy.

Our 2 boys are now in K1 & K2 respectively. However, their request for Gingerbread man have not ceased. Their schoolmates have enjoyed them so much that they look forward to the special occasions ie. the boys' birthdays & Children's Day when we pack these into our boys' goody bag instead of the usual sweets & whistles to share with their friends. Their parents have been asking for them. So, we figured that there must be some other parents out there who are in the same boat with us and we would like to share this with them.

Since young, Joanna has enjoyed baking with her Mom. Some of these recipes have been passed on to Joanna from her Mom. We baked a variety of cakes.... Brandied Fruitcakes, Chiffon Cakes, Marble Cakes, Butter Cakes, Swiss Rolls. Preparation for Chinese New Year were the busiest time of all. On the list were Shrewberry Drops Cookies, Mushroom Peanut Cookies, Kuih Bangkit (the kind that melts in the mouth), Love Letters, Cashew Nut Cookies, etc.

Baking had to take a back seat when studies and work took over. Since setting up our own little home, 8 years ago, Joanna indulged in a little baking with her hectic working schedule. In the last 6 years, Joanna has been experimenting with new recipes and sharing her goodies with our loved ones and friends. These had received positive comments from friends, some of whom have the most sensitive and "picky" taste buds. The Brandied Fruitcakes has become an annual request for Christmas. With repeated requests, we have decided to share with others too.
