On this page you will find all the best and my favourite quotes from the period of Ben and Meg's story I called Make Of Two Hearts, or in other words the time Ben had to struggle with the ghosts of the past, which made him deny his feelings for Meg, and Meg had to cope with his pushing her away and Annie and Tim's intrigue to keep her apart from Ben.

So, where do we go from here?

Mark: So, does Ben know you're Dorothy from the Internet?
Meg: Yeah, he does.
Mark: And?
Meg: And nothing.
    Ben comes up to them:
   Ben: Hi.
   Meg: Hi.
Ben: Listen, I got something to take care of, but I'll see you later, all right?
    Meg: Sure.
   Ben walks away.
Mark: Yeah, right. That looked like nothing to me.
Meg: Okay, okay, okay, the truth is, for the first time I feel like maybe Dorothy and SB have a chance.

Annie: Why did you gave Ricardo those jewels? You could have at least pretended they were stolen!
Ben: Oh, right, of course! There was NO way he could have looked in the safe!

Ben: Do you remember what you told me after Maria died? You said I've been through hell, I should go home, get some rest and tomorrow...
Annie: ... take my life back.
Ben: Come on... Go home, get some rest and tomorrow take your life back, Annie...
Annie: You should take your own advice.

Ben: Cut the crap, Annie. I heard you talking to Eddie about your deal.
Annie: I don't know...
Ben: I said: cut the crap!!! After what Eddie did to Meg, threatening her life, scaring the hell out of me, you turn around and agree to share the DesChannel jewels with him?!!!
Annie: Well, he told me he was gonna find daddy's real killer and help me clear my name and he did.
Ben: Oh, and on what cost? Meg's safety? My own peace of mind? You know, I told you next time you screw around like this, you'd lose me!

Meg: Look, if you're busy right now or this isn't a good time, we can talk later.
Ben: You said it was important. We'll go back to my place. ( he takes a look at Annie's door) I'm finished here.

Ben: So, what's bothering you?
Meg: Tim said that you told him that he should take me back to Kansas, that you were dangerous, that you even thought you were dangerous.
Ben: Well, I wouldn't disagree with it.
Meg: So, you did tell him that. To take me away from this place. (Ben turns away and takes a look at the portrait)
Why? What are you afraid of? ( Ben doesn't respond) Tim also said that some people are just born unlucky. Do you believe that, too?
Ben: Maybe.
Meg: Do you think that you were born unlucky?
Ben: What do you think?
Meg: Well, I think if that's true, then your luck has changed. ( Ben smiles ) I mean, take today for instance. Your office was broken into and no one was hurt. Annie, we thought she burned in the crematorium, but she's alive, she's free! I'm telling you, Ben Evans, your luck is definitely changed. And you're just too blind to realize it.

Meg: Look, I get the feeling that whatever is up there in that room it might help me figure out why you keep pushing me away. May help me understand what's really bothering you about your wife's death. And then maybe I can help you get past on this.
Ben: I've told you before, there's nothing you could do, so would you stop pushing?!
Meg: Fine. If that's what you really want. But I don't believe it. ( Meg storms out of Ben's house)
Ben: Damn you, Maria! I'm not gonna let you ruin my life!

Ben: Look, I'm sorry. I should never react the way I did.
Meg: I shouldn't have gone up to that room.
Ben: Like you said, you're only trying to understand me. Problem is, Meg, I don't really understand myself.
Meg: Call me crazy, but I think anything is possible if you care enough.
Ben: We're setting a very bad example.
Meg: Dancing on duty?
Ben: No relationships between staff members. Maybe I should change the policy or you will have to find a new job.
( he walks away to pick up the phone call)
Meg: I'm not going anywhere, Ben.

Ben: It's a slow night. I suppose there's no need for me to stick around.
Meg: You're probably right.
Ben: I wonder if you would...
Meg: ( without letting Ben say what he meant) Sure, I can close up.( Ben smiles, astonished) ...if that's what you want me to do.
Ben: Well, somebody's going to do it.
Meg: Might as well be me, because I'm not going anywhere.

Ben: (opening the door) Meg!
Meg: Ben! I was just about to give up on you. I didn't think you were here.
Ben: Yeah, well, now it's not such a good time.
Meg: Why? What's wrong?
Ben: Nothing. It's just something I have to do, that's all. Alone.
Meg: Look, Ben, don't push me away. You didn't come to work this morning. I just... I wanna know what's going on with you.
Ben: Well, forgive me, Meg, but, you know, some things are simply none of your business. Now, if you don't mind...
Meg: No! I... I do mind! I mind a lot! I mean, how dare you push me away like that after everything that we've been through?
Ben: Excuse me, who do you think you are barging in here like to your own place?
Meg: I'm Dorothy. You remember me, SB? The one you used to tell everything to?
Ben: Hardly. I never ever gave you the right to know everything about me.
Meg: I have a right to know if it affects me! Are you upset about Maria? Is that it?
Ben: Now it really IS none of your business.
Meg: Why can't you talk to me about her? What? Don't you think that I'll understand? What are you afraid of?
Ben: Nothing!
Meg: Fine. Push me away, just don't deal with it. But  you know what the sad thing is? It's that you'll came to me, you'll find me and you'll apologize. And then, you know, the really terrible part about this is that I'll accept your apology. Until the next time that something upsets you and you push me away again.
Ben: Are you quite finished?
Meg: No, I'm not! Don't repeat the cycle, Ben. Let's just stop it, right here, right now. If you're hurting, I wanna help you. Please. Let me in.

Ben: So, how long has it been since you two seen each other?
Joan: Too long!
Meg: I write!
Joan: Yes, and your father and I love your postcards...

Ben: So, Joan, what brings you to Sunset Beach? Besides Meg, of course.
Meg: Well, actually Tim thought it would be a nice gesture to fly her in for Mother's Day.
Ben: What a thoughtful idea, Tim.
Tim: Well, I get those every once in a while...

Annie: I am so glad to be back home.
Joan: Were you away?
Annie: Well, you could say that. You see, well, my father,he,  he repossessed my furniture because I dropped out of law school. I threatened to kill him. And that night he was murdered! But I didn't do it!
Joan: Oh! Oh, no. Of course not!
Annie: Yes, unfortunately the police didn't see it that way. So, they arrested me. And I faked killing myself so I could escape and then I was on the run for weeks and weeks. And everybody thought that I burned alive in the crematorium. But they were wrong! And I'm here to tell the tale!
Joan: I'm so glad your story has a... a happy ending.
Annie: Yes. And I couldn't have done any of it without your daughter.
Joan: Meg?
Annie: Yes. She came to my rescue when the police were searching for me. She was ready to go to jail for me.
Meg: Oh, Annie, I wouldn't go that far.
Annie: Oh, come on, Meg, don't be so modest. You were harboring a fugitive. You and Ben BOTH were.
Joan: Is that true?
Ben: I was the one who hid Annie.
Annie: Well, the cops still thought that I killed my father. Ben would do anything for a friend, no matter how illegal.
Ben: Frankly, Annie, I wouldn't go that far.
Tim: Ah, admit it, Ben. You almost broke my jaw when I told you I knew Annie was still alive. You didn't want anyone to let know the police.
Meg: Ben DID NOT almost break your jaw! Look, Annie was innocent and everything turned out okay. Okay, Mom?
Joan: Well, at least now I know why you didn't write more often.

Meg: ( to Joan ) I know it looks bad there, but Ben is a really great guy. And I love him. And I'm not gonna let him go.

Meg: Well, Tim isn't exactly objective, Mom...
Joan: Are you?
Meg: I know Ben. When I first met Ben on the Internet I knew he was caring and giving... I knew that's what kind of man he was. He was passionate and dedicated. And loyal. And the more that I'm around him the stronger that feeling gets.
Joan: Well, you're certainly attached to him.
Meg: It's more than that. It's destiny.
Joan: Destiny?
Meg: The first day I was here I saw Ben. Well, according to Sunset Beach legend as the Santa Ana winds blow and the sun starts to set over the ocean, the first person you see on the other side of the pier is the one that you're destined to be with.
Joan: And you saw Ben?
Meg: We saw each other. It was like nothing else existed.

Joan: Just don't rush into anything.
Meg: Even if I know it's right? Do you remember what you said to me when I was supposed to get married?
Joan: About how I always wanted to ride through Paris in sports car...
Meg: ...with the wind blowing through your hair?
Joan: Yes, I remember.
Meg: Well, Ben is my ride through Paris.

Ben: It was quite a gesture of yours bringing Joan all the way from Kansas.
Tim: It was just a little Mother's Day gift for two people I really care about.
Ben: What you care about is getting Meg back home.
Tim: No, no, no, that was YOUR idea, remember? You're the one who wanted me to take her back to Kansas, to get her as far away from you as possible. That's what you want, isn't it?
Ben: No! That's the last thing I want...

Joan: I'm ready when you are!
Ben: Well, I'm looking forward to. Mostly, of course, because it will give me the chance to get to know the woman responsible for raising such a lovely daughter!

Ben: Annie, behave!
Annie: Scout's honor! ( to Tim when Ben has left ) Too bad I got kicked out of the Girls Scouts.

Ben: ( to Mark ) To be honest, my dreams were a lot simpler. It was a false dream. You know, you have to find someone who'd love you for who you are.

Joan: Honey, are you in love with Ben? ( Meg nods ) Is he in love with you?
Meg: I think so. I just think he's having a hard time admitting it. [ I say! ]

Ben: Good, you're still here. Oh, I'm sorry, am I interrupting?
Meg: No. We were just talking about my life here.
Ben: And I gather your mother wasn't too pleased with it.
Joan: Well, I do have some questions. Questions I'd like to ask you.
Meg: No! No!
Ben: No, it's all right. Fire away.
Joan: Meg, could you leave us alone for couple of minutes?
Meg: DON'T give him the third degree.

Joan: Meg means the world to me, Ben. I don't wanna see her get hurt.
Ben: I don't blame you. She's wonderful. And I do care very much for her.

Ben: I have no intention of hurting Meg.

Meg: I've let myself in. I hope you don't mind.
Ben: Why should I? I have nothing to hide from you.

Joan: It was really good meeting you. I had really wanted to get to know you a little better.
Ben: Well, I got the feeling.
Joan: I bet you felt like you were under a microscope. It's a maternal instinct, protecting the offspring.
Ben: You don't have to explain. I understand.

Joan: I hate to do this, but there's just one more thing I need to ask you.
Ben: Anything.
Joan: Promise me you won't hurt Meg.

Ben: Well, she looks okay. to me. Maybe you just overreacted.
Meg: I don't understand. What... What's going on here?
Tim: Well, I knew you were a little depressed about your mother leaving, so we're about to look for you and make sure you're all right.
Meg: I can take care of myself, Tim!
Ben: What I told him.

Meg: It's causing you to have all these nightmares.
Ben: Meg, would you just please drop it?
Meg: No, I won't, because I hate to see what it's doing to you.
Ben: Meg!
Meg: Ben, you're scaring me!
Ben: Well, sometimes I scare myself!
Meg: Why? Ben, please, don't shut me out like this!
Ben: Look, I'm not... I'm not trying to hurt you, believe me. I'm only trying to protect you!
Meg: Protect me? From what? Please tell me what you're protecting me from!
Ben: From me! Look, I... Sometimes you... Sometimes you have to hold back, you know, you have to rain yourself in, otherwise you... You...
Meg: Ben? What are you trying to say?
Ben: I'm saying I got to a point where is no turning back.

Annie: So, what are you going to do? Just hide away from the world for the rest of your life?
Ben: Evidently NOT! People like you won't let me..

Meg: Ben, look, I heard what you said but I'm not leaving you alone. Not tonight.
Ben: Have you heard what Ricardo said? I'm dangerous! You should stay away from me!
Meg: I don't believe that! I don't think that you could hurt anyone, Ben.
Ben: Well, I wanted to hurt him, all right.  Look, I just think you should go, Meg, you know?
Meg: No. I... I won't leave. Tonight of all nights. It's not the time to be alone, Ben.
Ben: Don't you understand? I AM alone!
Meg: No, you're not! Do you remember that tomorrow is the anniversary of something else? We met one year ago over the Internet. Remember me? I'm Dorothy.
Ben: It was a year ago?
Meg: I was really stressed out by the wedding, or at least that's what I thought. But I finally realized that it was Tim. I knew that he wasn't the man for me.
Ben: Yeah, I remember. You... you couldn't sleep, so instead you went on line.
Meg: I was really upset and I connected with SB and I realized he was the one person who understood me. You reached out to me that night even though that I could sense that you were struggling with your own problems.
Ben: That was that night. ( Ben walks away and Meg plays Beyond The Sunset )
Meg: Do you remember this song? SB and Dorothy's identifying mark. Come on, Ben. For just one night let's pretend that you're not Ben and that I'm not Meg...
Ben: And what? Pretend that we are not two lost souls?
Meg: How can we be two lost souls? Not when we found each other.
Ben: I don't know, Meg.
Meg: I do.

Ben: Meg, what are you doing here? I told you to stay away tonight!
Meg: We need to talk, Ben.
Ben: Tomorrow.
Meg: No, now, Ben. On the anniversary of the first time that we met on the Internet.
Ben: And how do you suggest we celebrate that?
Meg: By talking about the future, instead of the past. I'm here, Ben. Dorothy, remember? The one you could tell everything to?
Ben: Not this time, I'm sorry.
Meg: Do you think that if you open up to me, I'll run away? Do you think my feelings for you will change?
Ben: Listen, your feelings for me are like this amazing, unexpected gift. But I can't accept it right now.
Meg: Why? I won't leave you, Ben. No matter what you tell me.
Ben: Look, I care for you, Meg, more than you can possibly imagine. But this is one night you need to mind your own business.

Ben: Meg!
Meg: Ben! Do you remember when SB told Dorothy that he was afraid his memories might destroy him? Well, I care about you too much to stand by and let that happen.
Ben: If you really care about me you'll leave me this time alone tonight.
Meg: Why?! So you can hole up in here like you do every year and grieve over your wife? Ben, Maria died four years ago and she's not coming back!
Ben: I know that!
Meg: Then act like it! No one can talk to you about her! It's like your keeping it to yourself could somehow keep her alive.
Ben: Is that what you think?
Meg: Look, I don't know why you're staying here all night alone in the dark. Come home, where there's laughter and people who love you!

Meg: I know it was wrong of me to come here without your permission.
Ben: Well, it clearly stopped you!
Meg: I came in here to find out more about Maria. To find out why you can't get over her death. I'm just trying to help!
Ben: Well, I don't want your help, Meg. Or anyone else's. Don't you understand this? No one can understand.
Meg: I won't accept it. Because I know if I do there never be a chance for you and me...
Ben: Well, I never said there was.
Meg: I know. But I just keep hoping if I could reach that part of you that is locked away then maybe we'll work out.
Ben: ( he's having a flash about what he said in the wine cellar) You're wasting your time, Meg.

Meg: Look, Ben, please, don't do this! Don't shut me out of your life!
Ben: It's for your own good, Meg. Go back to Kansas. Forget about me.

Firefighter: Ma'am, we're obligated to check out the scene of a fire.
Annie: Oh, yeah? Where were you when I was being cremated?

Meg: Look. Whatever happened is completely my fault. And I will never, ever forgive myself for driving you to set that bed on fire. But no matter what you may think of me now, there's one thing that won't change. I care about you and I always will.

Ben: ( to Maria's portrait ) Whatever happens there I will not let you destroy Meg, too.

Meg: You know, one day you're gonna wanna talk about everything that's happened. About the fire. And my wearing Maria's dress. And I just want you to know that I'll be around when you're ready.

Ben: For what it's worth, I never told Meg to come here.
Tim: And you didn't tell her to go away, either. So she just keeps coming back, and then you, without a word, have managed to get her completely addicted to you. [ O.K. I know Tim meant it to be an insult, but as far as I am concerned, it's a compliment]

Ben's dream about him and Meg:
Ben: There's no keeping away from you, is there?
Meg: What are you saying?
Ben: I'm saying I've tried. God knows I've tried to keep away from you to make you safe.
Meg: I AM safe.
Ben: Well, Tim thinks otherwise.
Meg: I don't care what Tim or anyone else thinks.
Ben: I just don't wanna see you hurt.
Meg: Then stop protecting me. I know when to run and when to stay and what's right and what's wrong. And this is right. You know that, don't you? Stop denying that.

And here's what really happened:
Ben: There's no keeping away from you, is there?
Meg: Look, Ben. You don't wanna forget about me and I don't wanna forget about you.
Ben: Well, you should.
Meg: Why? Because you think you're not right for me? Shouldn't I be the one who makes that decision?
Ben: You think you know me.
Meg: I DO know you. I know that you wanna reach out to me, but you're scared that I'm not gonna be there. Ben, I will be there. Always.
Ben: I wish I could believe that.
Meg: It's true. Look, Ben. We both want to be together. So let's stop fighting it and just give in. You won't be losing. Only winning.

Meg's dream about her and Ben:
Meg: Ben, what are you doing here?
Ben: I had to see you.
Meg: I thought you said you couldn't do that. That you were afraid I would wind up dead like your wife.
Ben: Forget what I said on the beach. I must have been out of my mind thinking I could stay away from you.
Meg: Okay, well, what about Maria? You said that you were feeling guilty for hurting her.
Ben: No, just guilty because I couldn't save her, not because I hurt her. It's time for me to put my past behind me, get on with my life. With you.

Annie: What just happened here? Is that what you were hoping to happen tonight? You were hoping that Meg will find us together? Oh, if you're so hurt, why don't you go run after her?

Annie: If you were trying to drive Meg away tonight then I think you worked. The question is why?
Ben: The question is why do you care?
Annie: Well, ordinarily, I wouldn't. And it would please me to know and have Meg out of the picture. But is seems to me that you planned tonight not because you don't love Meg, but because you do.[Now, let me tell you, I couldn't believe she actualy said that]

Ben: You didn't deserve that, Meg. Even if it was the only way.

Ben: Come in.
Meg: No, just let me say what I've come here to say.
Ben: All right.
Meg: I can't do this anymore. I need to cut my losses. I'm giving you my notice.
Ben: Notice?
Meg: I'm quitting my job, Ben.
Ben: How soon you wanna leave?
Meg: Immediately, if that's all right with you.
Ben: Does... does that mean you're leaving Sunset Beach?
Meg: Would it matter to you if I did?
Ben: You've... you've been a good employee, Meg.
Meg: Good employee? That's just how I wanna to be remembered. Well, this good employee is taking your advice and staying away. I mean, that's what you want, isn't it? That's what you've always wanted. Ever since the first day I arrived here in Sunset Beach.
Ben: I tried to warn you, Meg. Even before you came.
Meg: I guess I should have taken your advice over the Internet more seriously. Maybe it would have saved us a lot trouble.
Ben: Yeah, yeah. It would have saved us a lot of trouble.
Meg: So much for the Sunset Beach legend. When the Santa Ana winds blow and the sun sets over the ocean, the first person you see is the one you're destined to be with. Well, I saw you and we were destined to be anything but together. I guess that's what happens when you start to believe in fairy tales. You're getting exactly what you want.
Ben: It should be what you want, too. ( Meg turns away without a word ) Good bye, Dorothy From Kansas.

Ben: ( watching Meg from the pier ) Don't do it. Walk away from her. For her own good, walk away.

Ben: I was wondering why you quit work here?
Meg: Does it bother you?
Ben: Are you sure it's what you mean?
Meg: Ben, for once, would you just not answer question with a question?! Could you just tell me right out why I'm up here?
Ben: Yeah, I wanted to give you this.
Meg: What is it?
Ben: Your last paycheck. I thought as long as you're here and once your decision is final I might as well take care of this.
Meg: You know, I thought... Actually I was hoping that when I came up here, just possibly... That you were capable of little human feelings. That after me quitting and everything, that you may...
Ben: What?
Meg: Nothing. Just give me the check. I'm glad I can save you a  stamp. ( Ben hands her the check and wouldn't let go of her hand)  Ben...? [ And, of course, Annie barged in, and I almost threw a spoon at my TV screen]

Annie: You know, I think it's destiny, Ben.
Ben: Excuse me?
Annie: You and me together.
Ben: Annie, we've been down this road before.

Annie: Oh-Oh!
Ben: What?
Annie: Nothing. [ You know, I just thought, it describes Annie so beautifully.]

Ben: So, you think you're qualified to be my personal assistant?
Annie: Who knows you better than I do, Ben? Your quirks, your habits, your moods? And who's more willing to put up with them?
Ben: And what exactly do you plan to do for me, while you be putting up with my quirks, habits and moods?

Annie: Don't worry, Ben. Things are gonna work out perfectly. And I really appreciate this shot.
Ben: You know, I could have sworn I didn't say : you're hired.
Annie: Ben! Old friends don't need such formalities! You won't be sorry! ( she throws herself on him )
Ben: Annie! Would you...? Annie, would you just sit down?! ( she sits on his lap ) Not here!
