On this page you will find all the best and my favourite quotes from the period of Ben and Meg's story I called Just A Perfect Day - the period which WAS perfect and which includes a bit more than 24 hours from Ben and Meg's life - that is from the moment our prayers were answered and Meg turned up at Ben's doorstep till the end of their wonderful First Time.

Ben:(
hearing the doorbell ringing) Go away, will you? (the doorbell
still rings) Damn it! Will you go away? (he opens the door)
Meg:You
forgot/left something in Kansas. Me.
Ben:
I
don't believe it... Hey, you're here...
[ I believe I will never forget that smile]Do
you wanna come in?
Meg:
What
I want is to start over. Hi, my name is Meg Cummings. I'm here from Ludlow,
Kansas.
Ben:
Oh,
Kansas? I know someone from Kansas. Extraordinary woman. I met her over
Internet, she calls herself Dorothy.
Meg:
That's very interesting. I wrote to someone over Internet. SB?
Ben:
You
are not...?!
Meg:
No?!
Ben:
I
don't believe it! You came all the way from Kansas?
Meg:
I just couldn't stay away...
Ben:
Well,
I like your intransigence. It goes with the chopsticks, too.
Meg:
Well, if at first you don't succeed...
Ben:
That's what made me fall in love with you.
Meg:
Well, I'm sure I caught your eye on my first day here in Sunset Beach,
getting my backpack stolen and falling off the pier and nearly drowning...
Ben:
No, no, no, before that. On the Internet.
Meg:
Well, that's where I first fell in love with you, too.
Ben:
But
just in case, you can always stay here, I mean, no strings attached...
Meg:
Thank you, but...
Ben:
I
know, I know, I promised I wouldn't push you, but it's been... (he looks
at his watch) Oh! Almost an hour ago!
Gregory:
If you can get yourself up out of bed tomorrow, we'll be meeting at eight.
That's AM, not PM Annie!
Annie:
Oh,
don't worry. When something interests me I'm on it day and night.
Meg:
She
sure is.
Gregory:
Meg,
would you please show Miss Douglas the way OUT?
Meg:
It would be my pleasure!
Ben:
You
know, as long as I've lived here, I've never grown tired of this view.
There's a... there's only one thing that I could think of that's more beautiful...
Meg:
Ben Evans, do you know where you are?
Ben:
I sure do. Right where I want to be.
Meg:
No, I mean, do you know what particular spot you're standing?
Ben:
Well...
Meg:
Well? This is the exact same spot where I first saw you at sunset, first
day I came to Sunset Beach.
Ben:
Oh,
yeah! And the same place that Armando DesChannel first saw the love of
his life, the Lady In Black, according to the legend of Sunset Beach.
Meg:
I remember. The first person that you meet at the far side of the pier
is the one that you're destined to be with.
Ben:
Then,
I'd say we're on some pretty magical ground, wouldn't you?
Meg: When I was back in Ludlow I tried as hard as I could to forget all my memories of Sunset Beach. And of you. But I couldn't. Everywhere I turned, you were there.
Ben:
Open.
Meg:
(seeing
the gondola) Oh my God!
Ben:
(anxiously)
You like it?
Meg:
Ben, this is incredible...
Ben:
You like it?
Meg:
...I
love this!
Ben:(with
relief) Good, cause I wanted to know if I was rushing you and... I
know you said slowly and well... I'm trying, Meg, but I don't know what
you want...
Meg:
Ben, Ben, just... shut up and kiss me...
Meg:
Thank
you for giving me Venice.
Ben:
Venice, California.
Meg:
Are we in California? Wait a minute, are you sure? Because I could have
sworn right back there I saw the Piazza St. Marco, I swear, right back
there!
Ben:[
laughs and I swear I have never seen him laughing so beautifully before!]
Well, we're in Venice.
Meg:
I
can't believe this is happening. This is like a dream come true.
Ben:
Well, better believe this Meg, because I'm gonna make all your dreams come
true.
Meg:
You
know, I remember going on and on over the computer to you about this place,
how romantic and magical I thought it was.
Ben:
And
you were right.
Meg:
I used to read book after book and look at all the pictures and imagine
that I lived here in the nineteenth century.
Ben:
And
THAT would have been the sight to see.
Meg:
I had this whole plan that I would wear these beautiful long dresses, go
to stately balls and Lord Byron would be my lover... Kinda silly, huh?
Ben:
Not at all. In fact, I've become jealous of Lord Byron already.
Meg:
You know, I used to love his poetry. What was the one?
Ben:
"She walks in beauty like the night / in cloudless climes and starry
skies / and all that's best of dark and bright / meet in her aspect
and her eyes." Ti Amo Meg. (Okay, I don't
know what he's done with his voice, but I can listen to it over and over,
don't you?)
Meg:
Ti
amo Ben. (they kiss) I can't believe that I almost gave it up to
sit on a front porch among chickens!
Ben:
Well, I for one am very happy you didn't.
Ben:
(giving
Meg the Heart of Glass) Well, I thought it was a perfect example of
you. You know, all the colors it reflects, the perfection of the glass.
See the fault that makes it real? Strength and the fragility. I don't know,
I just thought it sort of seems like you somehow.
Meg:
And I thought SB was a romantic.
Meg:
You
know, I know that we're supposed to be taking things slowly, but you're
making it extremely hard for me to resist.
Ben:
Well, I confess... That's the plan.
Ben: It's never too late to pursue your heart's desire. You taught me that.
Ben:
You've
said it was red convertible your mother wanted to drive through Paris,
haven't you?
Meg:
You remembered that?
Ben:
Yeah, well, love does this sort of thing.
Ben: It's about us. Dorothy and SB. And I'm gonna show you just how exciting life could be. Our life.
Ben:
Well,
I wanted to show you how nice it is when your dreams come true. Like when
you turned up at my doorstep the other night.
Meg:
Well
I realized I couldn't go through life wondering what might have been. You
know, like my mother says, we only regret the things we don't do in life.
Meg:
You
know, it's too bad this has to end now!
Ben:
(
innocently pretending to be surprised) Why?
Ben:
Why
don't you... Why don't you drive back, see how car holds?
Meg:
Come on, what's the point, I'm never gonna hold a car like this, at least
not any time in the near future, so...
Ben:
Is
now soon enough?
Meg:
Now?
Ben:
(innocently
embarrassed) I didn't rent it, I bought it.
Meg:
What?
Ben:
It's
yours, Meg.
Meg:
This
is a joke, right? You're kidding me? (Ben shakes his head) Oh my
God, Ben! I can't believe this! You are SO crazy! And I love it!
Ben:
And
I love making your dreams come true. First of many, Meg, first of many.
Ben:
I
hate it that I have to leave you.
Meg:
I
hate it, too.
Ben:
Hey,
don't worry. See you soon.
Meg:
Not
soon enough.
Meg:
He
remembered, Mom, every word of your dream that I told him. He made it all
come true.
Joan:
Oh, Meg. That man really loves you.
Joan:
My Goodness. Ben Evans is quite a romantic.
Meg:
He
is so much different than anyone I have ever met in my entire life. And
I'm so happy I've been able to see that side of him. I feel so cherished,
Mom.
Joan:
You
are, Meg. And this is a man to be cherished, too.[
As if anyone needed to be reminded of it!]
Joan: Honey, some things are just meant to be lived. Go with your heart.
Annie: Ben, my best friend. The only one that I could count on. That is until a certain someone came into his life and changed everything.
Meg: I thought romance was dead. And there it is, standing right in front of my eyes.
Meg:
You
thought of... You thought of absolutely everything, didn't you?
Ben:
No.
I thought of you.
Meg:
Ben,
everything that you're doing for me...
Ben:
...will never be enough. I mean it, Meg. You know, when we were out driving
today and I was watching the wind blow through your hair and sun shine
in your face and something magical happened. I saw you smile again. You
know, after months of watching how only tears come from those beautiful
eyes I realized I'm gonna make you smile more. It takes me to completely
different time and place when we're happy together. And that's all I want.
To feel like that. Only this time I want it to last forever. (he sees
Meg close to tears) Oh, I'm sorry, I made you cry.
Meg:
No, these... these are the good kind.
Ben:
Well,
I promise I'm never gonna make you shed the bad kind.
Ben:
(as
Meg's eyes are still filled with tears) Here, let me give you a tissue.
Meg:
Ben! I don't need a tissue. Or French food or fancy dress...
Ben:
What do you need?
[
We all know how she answered that]
Meg: You know, I don't know what's making me warmer. You or the fire.
Ben:
You
know, we left something of our dinner.
Meg:
I
can't imagine what.
Ben:
Dessert.
Meg:
Fire feels so nice.
Ben:
So do you.
Meg:
Flattery will take you everywhere, you know.
Ben:
Oh? Define everywhere.
Ben:
Anyway,
you don't have to rush. Why don't you stay for a while?
Meg:
Because... I'm afraid one little will power I have left will totally disappear.
Vanessa:
What's
wrong?
Meg:
I just had the most romantic day of my life.
Vanessa:
Yeah, so, naturally, you're upset.
Vanessa:
He
gave you a red convertible?
Meg:
Yeah.
Vanessa:
So then, you had the fight.
Meg:
No,
we didn't have a fight. In fact, we're... we're better than ever right
now.
Vanessa:
Where is Ben right now?
Meg:
He's at home. I left him there. I just... I had to.
Vanessa:
Can I ask you something?
Meg:
Yeah, sure.
Vanessa:
Are you crazy?!
[ I couldn't put it better myself]
Meg:
I
know that he loves me. I know that he really, truly loves me. It's just
that I want to take things slowly this time around.
Vanessa:
Love
is so funny. I mean, here you spent all this time showing Ben how much
you really care for him, I mean, all the bad times with Maria and everything.
I know how painful that was. And now that Ben has finally turned around
you put the brakes on.
Meg:
I know, it's true.
Vanessa:
So, here's my last question. If Ben is doing everything he can to show
you how much he loves you, everything that you always wanted from him,
can you put him off? What do you think that's gonna do to him? Meg, something
like that can really hurt him. Or even worse, push him away. [
Thank you, Vanessa!]
Ben:
What's
on your mind?
Meg:
You are.
Meg:
Ben,
there's something that I need to tell you in person.
Ben:
I'm
glad you found me.
Meg:
Well,
I'm glad you didn't give up on me.
Ben:
No,
I just came here to catch up on some work, but of course I can't stop thinking
about you. You must have sensed my thoughts.
Meg:
Well,
something's been going on with me lately and I'm usually more sensible
that this.
Ben:
Oh, really?
Meg:
I... I haven't quite been myself ever since we connected on the Internet.
Ben:
That's too bad, you know. I really like you the way you are.
Meg:
Well, I've been incredibly impulsive lately, I mean, for Heaven's sake,
I left my fiancé at the altar to fly to a place where I've never
been, in search for man I never met.
Ben:
True, but then again, I keep thinking rationality is overrated.
Meg:
Okay. What have you done with the real Ben Evans?
Ben:
This is the real Ben Evans, Meg. The one who knows you cannot think too
much about everything. That you have to go with your heart sometimes. What
I've been trying to convince you ever since you came back to Sunset Beach.
Meg:
Oh and you've been very persuasive and I guess the real reason I ran out
so quickly after dinner is that I was... I was overwhelmed by what you're
making me feel and I just haven't been thinking straight lately and then
I went to Java Web to write the E-Mail and it wasn't the right thing to
do, I needed to tell you in person, and I was just afraid and then I wanted
to be with you...
Ben:
Like a beautiful lady once said to me : shut up and kiss me.
Ben:
(when
they stopped kissing) Sorry, did I interrupt?[
SORRY? He can interrupt me like that any time he pleases!!!]
Meg:
You
know, I thought I knew what love was when I decided to marry Tim, but I
never felt this way with him. Ever.
Ben:
And
how do you feel?
Meg:
I
feel happy and confused and excited, all... all at the same time.
Ben:
And
what about when I opened the door and we kissed? How did that make
you feel?
Meg:
It felt right. It felt like we really belonged together.
Ben:
I cannot tell you how long I waited for you to say that. I feel... I feel
exactly the same, Meg.
Meg:
After
all this time we're finally at the same place together.
Ben:
And
in the end the walls only grew higher and, you know, I don't think I was...
I don't think I was capable of love until I met you. And even though I
warned you away you never gave up on me.
Meg:
It
was because I believed in you.
Ben:
I
know, I know and it was because of that belief that I was able to get past
Maria and learn to love you.
Meg:
I'm happy.
Ben:
You
know, I needed you in my life, Meg. That's why I followed you to Kansas.
Meg:
You know, when you drove up to my front porch, you could have knocked me
over with a feather.
Ben:
Well,
I had to come. Cause I had to convince you of something you lost sight
of. The fact that we belong together.
Meg:
Well, you know, being the upright Kansas girl I might begin to wonder where
this evening is going.
Ben:
Oh, nowhere particular.[
Yeah, right!] I
just wanna be with you.
Meg:
I
just wanna be with you, too, but...
Ben:
I
know, I know, one step at a time. [Who are
you kidding, huh?]
Meg:
It
won't be like this forever. [ You bet, it
won't!] [O.K. I'm shutting up]
Ben:
Well, I'd wait that long, Meg, because I never wanted a woman more or loved
a woman more than I love you.
Ben:
You know, when you came back I've sworn myself that I was going to be patient.
Meg:
And you have been incredibly patient.
Ben:
Well, it hasn't been easy, but I... I wanted to... to wait until you made
sure you wanted to be with me as much as I wanted to be with you and, well,
these past few days have been... they've been amazing.
Meg:
Yes, they have.
Ben:
Well, and now I'm convinced that we can have wonderful future together,
you know, I can... I can really feel it, Meg, stronger than I've ever could.
Meg:
What are you saying?
Ben:
Well,
the day you came back from Kansas I... I bought something. I was saving
it hoping the right moment will come along and, well, I think it has. (
He shows Meg the ring) Meg, I have spent half my life running away
and now for the first time I wanna run to something, to someone.
Meg:
Ben...
Ben:
I've tried to show you every way I know how to tell you how much you mean
to me, but there's no better way than by asking you to spend the rest of
your life with me. (He gets on his knees ) Meg Cummings, will you
marry me?
Meg:
(crying)
How can you even ask me that?
Ben:
Meg,
I... I know I have no right to ask you to marry me, not after I promised
I'd take things slow.
Meg:(trying
to interrupt him) Ben...
Ben:
No,
no, no, no, who am I kidding? I'm not sure if I should have asked you at
all, but...
Meg:
No, no, no....
Ben:
...but before you turn me down just let me say it, please, just five minutes,
to make a further fool of myself...
Meg:
You can have TEN minutes...
Ben:
Look, I know I'm probably not the easiest person to live with, not in the
best circumstances, and I already put you through hell...
Meg:
Occasionally.
Ben:
Do you believe in signs?
Meg:
Signs? What...?
Ben:
Signs. Here, come with me. (he leads her on the deck) Look up there,
what do you see?
Meg:
I see the sky, the moon and the stars.
Ben:
You know, I really hadn't noticed that for years till you came along and
then, the night I met you over Internet I came out here and I happened
to glance up and there was a shooting star straight over the horizon.
"A sign" I thought. "A good sign."
Meg:
Did you make a wish?
Ben:
No, not until the second time I saw the shooting star the night you came
back from Kansas.
Meg:
You saw one then, too?
Ben:
So,
as much as I say to myself you'd be better off without me, the Heaven seems
to tell a totally different story. Hey, you're shivering, let's go back
inside.
Meg:
Ben? What was it that you wished for?
Ben:
Oh,
I had a few wishes that night. But I held one of them in my arms that night.
Meg:
You
know, I'm surprised you ever came back for more.
Ben:
Well, I couldn't stay away. There was something about Dorothy From Kansas.
Meg:
Something else beside my corny stories?
Ben:
Look, I fell in love with you Meg. That was the last thing I expected and
the last thing I wanted. But you got through what no one else could. Believe
me, I wasn't happy about it.
Meg:
Is that why you pushed me away? Why you didn't want me to come to Sunset
Beach?
Ben:
Well, you scared the hell out of me.
Meg:
But I don't anymore?
Ben:
The only thing that scares me now is being without you. Because I love
you Meg. With all my heart.
Meg:
So, is it over?
Ben:
Is what over?
Meg:
Your speech paid to get me to marry you.
Ben:
Oh, just one more thing. One more pledge really.
Meg:
You'll always put the cap back on the toothpaste?
Ben:
Oh, that, yeah. And no more secrets. I'll never keep anything from you
again, Meg.
Meg:
You
don't know how long I wondered if I ever got to know you, I mean, really,
really know you.
Ben:
You'll be the only one that will. All you have to do is ask. And I will
tell you everything. My hopes, my fears, my past.
Meg:
You'd do that?
Ben:
Yeah. For you. Is there anything you wanna know?
Meg:
Just one thing. How did I ever get to be so blessed?
Ben:(
a bit later) What are you saying?
Meg:
I'm saying that I'm the luckiest woman in the world to have you in my life.
And I wouldn't have it any other way.
Ben:
Does that mean what I think it means? You'll marry me?
Meg:
Well, if you'd let me finish the first time you mentioned it you might
have your answer by now.
Ben:
But when you said how can I even ask you...?
Meg:
How can you even ask me for something you already have? Ben, you've had
me for such a long time. I can't ever remember the time that I didn't love
you.
Ben:
Meg, I...
Meg:
I have loved you my entire life. Even before I knew you. You've always
been right here in my heart.
Ben:
And?
Meg:
And yes. Yes, I will marry you Ben. YES!
[O.K.
We all know what happened later, let me just say that I've never seen Ben
more happy and me personally, well, I cried like crazy, couldn't help myself.
Call me sentimental...]
Meg:
We're
getting married! We're getting married! [O.K.
Now, can anyone please tell me what did Clive do to his voice that this
murmur he made sounded so beautifully?]
Ben:
Make
it official. (He kneels down and puts the ring on Meg's finger)
Meg:
This
is incredible.
Ben:
The
ring?
Meg:
Knowing that I'm about to being Mrs. Ben Evans. You don't know how long
I have dreamed of calling myself that.
Ben:
And you have no idea how often I have imagined proposing to you. I hoped
it to be as special as you did.
Meg:
Well, it was.
Ben:
What do you mean, you surprised me by coming back tonight! All this was
spur of the moment.
Meg:
Well, if this was spur of the moment, then I can't wait to see the wedding.
Ben:
Well,
hopefully the wedding will be a bit more organized...
Meg:
Well,
maybe we should practice...
Ben:
I'd
much rather practice for our Honey Moon...
[O.K. guys, quit these sappy smiles!!! I guess we all yelled YES when this
happened! ]
Ben:
I
love you very much Meg Cummings. Soon to be Evans.
Meg:
There's
no coming back?
Ben:
Absolutely not.
Meg:
Good.
[
I wish I could quote what happened later, but I guess you have to use your
imagination or watch the tape. I'll tell you one thing, all right, it was
worth waiting ten months!]
Meg: I don't plan to do this more than once, you know.
Meg:
These are all of our letters from the Internet!
Ben:
Yes,
all the E-mail between Dorothy and SB.
Meg:
You saved this?
Ben:
Every single one.
Meg:
You
know, I knew from the first minute that I met you over the Internet that
you were an incredibly hopeless romantic.
Ben:
HOPEFUL
romantic. Thanks to you.
Meg:
I love you.
Ben:
Well I love you, too, Meg. More than I've ever loved anyone.
Ben:
Well,
I could go for a nice hot shower.
Meg:
Well, don't make me stop you. You earned one.
Ben:
Actually,
that was an invitation.
Ben:
When
did this bottle....
Meg:
In between... treats?
Ben:
I'll go get another.
Meg:
Hurry back.
Ben:
For
more of the annoying adventures of Annie Douglas? Can't wait.
