~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~

On this page you will find all the best and my favourite quotes from the period of Ben and Meg's story I called Kansas Story - the period which starts after Meg left Sunset Beach for Kansas and ends at Ben's leaving Ludlow and coming back home without Meg.

~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~

Ben: This is your fault Maria. You're the reason Meg's gone. Well, I'm not gonna let you control our lives anymore.

Annie: Now, that you've lost Meg it's too much for you.
Ben: I haven't lost Meg.
Annie: What do you mean? Isn't she back in Kansas?
Ben: Yes, she is, but not for long. I'm gonna get her back.

Annie: Look, I know you're upset about Meg leaving, but you can't let the rest of your life fall apart.
Ben: I don't intend letting any of my life fall apart. As I've already told you I've no intention of giving up on Meg.

Meg's fantasy:
Ben:  I Ben, take you, Meg, to be my eternal partner, to have and to hold, in body and soul, through this life and beyond.
Meg:  I Meg, take you, Ben, as my eternal partner. From this day forward, may our hearts be bound as one, through all time.

Annie: Maybe you should let it go?
Ben: Maybe, but I can't let her go. I have to do something.
Annie: Look, I know it's hard when you love someone, but you never thought you were gonna get over Maria and you did.
Ben: And I suppose you think it would be best if I did the same with Meg?
Annie: You always could read my mind.
Ben: Well, even if I did give up on Meg it wouldn't necessary mean I'd be ready for someone else. I'm afraid love wouldn't work that way.
Annie: Look, I'm not doing this for me, okay?
Ben: Liar!
Annie: All right, so maybe there's a little self interest here, but by forcing Meg to love you it's only going to push her further away.
Ben: She forced me to care about her. I didn't want to. I didn't think I was ready to love until I found her over Internet.
Annie: You didn't even know her.
Ben: I knew her. As Dorothy. And then I fell in love with her again as Meg.

Ben: SB is back.

Ben: ( to Annie as she turned off his computer) What the hell you think you're doing?
Annie: Ben, I'm really sorry, but I think it's big mistake for you to hook up with Meg again.
Ben: Annie! I love her! I know that's not especially what you wanna hear, but I can't help the way I feel.
Annie: I know. [Oh, does she?]
Ben: Then, please, understand. I can't lose her. I have to get her back, no matter what.

Ben: (after he caught Annie messing with his computer) You know Annie, there's a fine line between business and personal life and well... we both know exactly where it is. Don't step over it if you wanna keep this job.

Annie: Meg doesn't love you anymore, Ben.
Ben: If I really thought that I would walk away, as hard as it might be, but I know Meg loves me. Just as I know there's someone there who loves you as I love Meg. Look, I know how difficult it is for you to hear that but I... I don't want you wait around for me...
Annie: But you're willing to wait for Meg.
Ben: There's a difference, Annie. You know, I believe that Meg and I are meant for each other and I believe we'll come together again, because our love is that strong. I mean, we've survived so much, we'll survive this.
Annie: You're a fool.
Ben: Maybe I am. Doesn't love make fools of us?

Ben: It's not over between us, Meg. I'll do anything to get you back.

Annie: Ben, you've got to face the truth. Meg is gone and she's not coming back.
Ben: You don't get it do you, Annie? [Duh!] I know Meg cares about me and she'd understand how much I care about her if she checked her bloody E-Mail!!!

Meg: Annie could have sent the seven plagues of Egypt against me and Ben and it wouldn't've mattered if I was the woman he really loved, not Maria.
Vanessa: Oh, Meg, you really wouldn't know that looking at him. I mean, he has been SO sad since you left, a total wreck.
Meg: Have he asked about me?
Vanessa: Of course, he has! But I just told him you haven't returned my calls.
Meg: Vanessa, I miss him SO much...
Vanessa: I can't help but wonder if maybe you were wrong about Ben all along.
Ben:( grabs the receiver from Vanessa's hand ) Meg, is that you?

Ben: Vanessa, I'm sorry for being rude. I just really have to contact Meg and, you know, convince her that I love her and that I'd never intentionally hurt her. Will you call me if you hear from her?
Vanessa: Ben, Meg is my friend. All I want for her is to find happiness, so please, don't put me in the middle of this.
Ben: Than you want the same thing I do. Look, I know Meg would be happy just like we were in the first place, when we met one another, if she'd give me another chance.
Vanessa: Good luck, Ben.

Ben: ( when he had to get rid of Annie AGAIN) Annie, Annie? Out! Now...

Ben: So, how is Meg?
Joan: I was hoping you could tell me. Meg isn't telling me a whole lot.
Ben: We had a misunderstanding, that's all.
Joan: Well, I think it had to be a little more than misunderstanding for Meg to get so upset that she came all the way back home.
Ben: I love her, Joan. That's why I called. I wanted to tell her that.
Joan: I... I... I don't know what to say.
Ben: Don't say anything, I need to explain something, Joan. Look, I didn't want to fall in love with her. I didn't want ever fall in love again.
Joan: Yes, I sensed that during my visit last spring.
Ben: But Meg got to me. Got under my skin and into my heart. Basically, she's been there longer than any person should ever have to.
Joan: She believed in you, Ben.
Ben: She loved me.
Joan: I think she still does, but something happened.
Ben: Yes, something that's made her doubt me. She thinks it's over between us but it's not.
Joan: So, what are you going to do?
Ben: If I succeed, same way she did with me. I'm determined to make her see we belong together.
Joan: Well, it certainly sounds as if you were.

Vanessa: I'm so glad you guys had a chance to talk. I really hated lying to you.
Ben: And I you. I'm sorry. You WERE talking to Meg last night.
Vanessa: You tricked me.
Ben: I had to, Vanessa, I love her and I'll do anything to get her back.
Vanessa: Including lying?
Ben: Lying, whatever it takes. Look, I have to make her see she's wrong. I don't love Maria, I love Meg.

Ben: (to Mark) I love that girl and I'd do everything to get her back.

Annie: No, no, you can't come now! I'm... I'm not dressed!
Ben: I thought you'd be anxious for me to drop in.
Annie: You know? Even I have standards!.

Ben: My paperwork? You said you had it.
Annie: Oh, let me get it for you. ( she hurries to give him the document ) Here you go. Bye, bye!

Annie: Nothing, nothing is going on!
Ben: You are acting very strangely, Annie. Even for you.
Annie: Well, I appreciate the compliment, but I'd appreciate your leaving even more.
Ben: Why are you in such a rush to get me out of here?
Annie: Look, maybe I'm not in the mood for company right now?
Ben: Usually, you look for ways to get me over here and beg me to stay. Now, why the sudden change of heart?
Annie: You know, you have some ego, Ben. You think I have no life outside of you?
Ben: Fine, I get the message. Good to know that I'm not wanted![Now, have you seen that smile?]

Ben: Well, at least let me see your pictures, Annie. I mean, I'm sure Eddie and Bette wouldn't mind, I mean, how intimate could they be?
Bette: Hold it, big guy! Are you suggesting that I'm incapable of attracting the eye of the younger, handsome man?!
Annie: You know, aunt Bette, I think you should go upstairs and stash these in my bedroom!
Bette: Not till after I get an answer from big guy!!!

Ben: Oh, I see what's going on here!
Annie: You do?
Ben: You have a man upstairs! Someone you obviously don't want me to see. Anyone I know?
Annie: No!
Bette: Yes!
Annie: Look, Ben, if you respect my privacy you will leave me alone and you'll stop asking questions and go!
Ben: Why? Because you respected my privacy all those times? You know, Annie, I think it's pay back time!

Annie: Ben, you know, you're right. I do have somebody upstairs. And frankly, it's really none of your business, so if you value our friendship at all, you'll just let it alone and you'll leave me alone, please...
Ben: I'm sorry, Annie. I guess I got carried away. You know I'm just not used to you shutting me off like that. I thought it was my job.

Annie: That's not what I meant! What I meant, was... Well... I... I'm... You know what, Ben? I'm... I'm lying!
Ben: No kidding!

Ben: You and Dr McCrea are lovers?
Annie: That's right and we have been for a while.
Ben: Now THAT I would like to see.
Annie: You don't believe me, do you? Or are you prejudiced against people like Allison and me?
Ben: This has nothing to do with prejudice and you know it!
Annie: Then why are you laughing? You know, I take my relationship with Allison very seriously.
Ben: You love men, Annie! You're the last female that could have an affair with another woman!

Ben:( as she's desperately trying to interrupt dr McCrae ) Annie, do I have to put a muzzle on you?

Ben: Is this true?
Annie: Is what true?
Ben: Did you or did you not plant this post-hypnotic suggestion?
Annie: Why would I do this like that?
Ben: Oh, to come between me and Meg, perhaps? To hurt her so deeply that she had no other choice, but to come back to Kansas! Damn you, Annie!
Annie: No, no, no, Ben, hear me out, hear me out!!!
Ben: Trust me, you don't want that! Because if I stay here even a second, I'll kill you! [he should have]
Annie: Ben, there's a reasonable explanation!
Ben: I don't wanna hear it!
Annie: You don't know the truth!
Ben: The truth is you drove Meg away.
Annie: You don't belong with Meg, you belong with me!
Ben: Get out!!!
Annie: No, I'm not getting out. Just hear me out, okay? Please, I care about you!
Ben: Is that why you took away my only chance of happiness?

Ben: You've been poking your nose in my affairs, again!
Annie: It's because I love you Ben! I mean, why can't I for once in my life have the one person that means something to me?
Ben: Have you gone completely insane? You drive away the one decent person out of my life and you expect me to what? To thank you?! To express my undying love for you?!!!
Annie:  Ben, I was desperate, okay? I mean, you're always thinking about Meg! It's always Meg, Meg, Meg!!! And I'm the one you should be with!
Ben: You keep saying that, but all you've ever done is hurt me!
Annie: But you know I never think before I act, Ben.
Ben: You never think. Period. Now, please, just get out!

Annie: (when Ben read the E-mail message from "Meg")  Oh my God, Ben...

Joan: Honey, don't look back with regret. If you've known real, true love just once in your life, it was worth the cost..

Joan: What I really want is for you to be happy and if your heart is somewhere else then that somewhere else is where I want you to be.
Meg: (on a verge of tears) Mom...
Joan: Oh, honey, you miss him so awfully, don't you?

Bette: (having read the message Annie sent to Meg) Do you feel some kind of perverted pleasure at seeing people in pain?

Bette: You listen to me, Annie. Ben does not, DOES NOT love you! Whatever chance you thought you might have had to make him love you, that all evaporated, ALL evaporated last night, when he found out what you did to drive Meg away!

Bette: Stop chasing after something you cannot have![I couldn't express it better myself ]

Ben: You're not dreaming, Meg. I'm really here.

Meg: Ben, what are you doing here?
Ben: You don't know? I came because I love you.

Meg: I just can't forget what happened between us when we were trapped in the cave.
Ben:  Neither can I. I made love to you.

Ben: You son of the bitch! ( and we all yelled YES as Tim got what he deserved)
Meg: Ben, Ben, don't!
Tim: What the hell was that about?
Ben: You're a smart guy. You figure that out.
Tim: What are you doing here, Ben? Besides assaulting people for no reason?
Ben: Well, I'd like some answers or would you prefer instant replay?( I say replay)
Tim: Meg?
Meg: Look, don't... don't look to me for sympathy. After everything that you've done to me I should hit you myself.
Tim: I'm confused. What did I do?
Meg: You've stabbed me in the back over and over again! You and Annie have been plotting and scheming to do anything to keep us apart!
Tim: That's crazy.
Meg: No, what is crazy is the lengths that you'd go to. Sabotage us, forging E-Mail, deleting it, giving Ben a post-hypnotic suggestion?!
Tim: A what?
Ben: Tim? Don't deny it. The game is over.
Meg: It's over. All the lies, all the under handy tricks... God! I thought you hit the bottom when you cheated on me on our wedding day with my best friend!!!
Tim: Wait a second, Meg, I thought we got it all past at! Didn't it even score when you left me at the altar?
Meg: Oh, I should have done much more than that. I should have left you out of my life! But you know what? It's not too late to set it straight now! I want you out and I don't ever, EVER wanna see you again. Do you hear me?! Do you understand what I'm saying?
Tim: Please, don't do this...
Meg: Look, get out!
Ben: You heard her Tim, get out.
Tim: Meg...
Meg: Get out!

Ben: You may be willing to give up on us, but I sure as hell am not.
Meg: Look, what is the point of trying? It's hopeless! I am in love with you and you are in love with a memory!
Ben: Meg, listen to me, Maria is part of my past, but you are my present and my future!
Meg: God, Ben, I wish I could be as sure of that as you are...
Ben: Come back to Sunset Beach with me and I'll make you believe that.
Meg: I can't... I can't do that right now, Ben, I ... There are just some things I need to figure out here.
Ben: Than I'll better go out pack my things out.
Meg: Why?
Ben: Because no matter how long it takes I'm not going anywhere until you're ready to go with me.

Hank: Let me make something very clear to you. See, my family is very, very close and my daughter, her happiness means everything to me.
Ben: Then we have something in common. Look, I care about your daughter more than I can put in words.(...) It was because of Meg that I finally forgot and moved on. You know she gave me the reason to make a living again.
Hank: Well, Meg's got a way of reaching out to people, I'm sure, but you see, that's the problem. Poor Meg ends up caring for people, caring for them more than they end up caring for her.
Ben: Well, I can assure you it's not the case here. I love your daughter. Very much.

Joan: (to Meg) Honey, whether you know it or not you gave your heart to Ben a long time ago.

Meg: You know, Tim lives just down the road.
Ben: Every town has its flaws.

Ben: I can't think what we are waiting for.
Meg: Neither can I.

Ben: I fight for the things I believe in and I believe in us.

Ben: I'll camp at your front doors if that's what it takes. Whatever it takes to convince you that you are the woman I love.(...) There's only one voice I hear. There's only one beautiful face I see and that's yours.
Meg: Ben, I don't... I don't know.
Ben: Yes, you do, you know it here (he points to her heart). You know, all you have to do is listen to it and go where it leads you. Meg, nine months ago I met a woman with an extraordinary courage to leave everything and everyone, too, to follow her dream. She traveled half way across the country to find love. To find me. You know, all I'm asking is that you still have a courage to follow your heart.
Meg: Ben, I am not the same person I was nine months ago and neither are you. Things have changed.
Ben: Some things haven't changed at all.
Meg: Like what?
Ben: How did Robert Frost put it? (Ben quotes the poem) Don't you see, Meg? Back then, you were at a turning point. You and I have fallen in love over the Internet and all the time you were planning to marry Tim. To take the safe way. If you hadn't walked in on him and Connie that afternoon, you'd marry him.
Meg: And?
Ben: And you would spend the rest of your life wondering what if I met SB. But you didn't take the safe road. You took a chance and we found each other.
Meg: And now?
Ben: And now you're at another turning point. Only this time if you take the safe way you walk away from love. Our love. You know, I think you'll spend the rest of your life wondering what if.
Meg: You know, I forgot how persuasive you can be.

Meg: Next on our farm tour is the old apple tree at the back.(...) Where I was so greedy to pick all the apples that I fell out of the tree when I was nine years old and broke my arm.
Ben: This arm? (he takes her left arm)
Meg: As a matter of fact, yes.
Ben: Well, I'll take good care of it. And the rest of you Meg, I promise.

Ben: Bravo, that was good, Annie. Very good. And for a moment there you almost had it sincere.

Annie: Well, aren't you gonna say something?
Meg: Well, I have nothing to say. Do you?
Ben: Huh? Oh, I was just waiting for you to finish. I thought maybe a catch?
Annie: No, no, no, there's no catch. I really am truly sorry for how much I've hurt you. From the bottom of my heart, I mean that.
Ben: What heart, Annie?
Annie: The heart that's always loved you.
Ben: Tell me, what kind of love is that exactly that makes you wanna hurt another person? You know, I thought it was impossible for me to be surprised by you, Annie, but when it comes to tricks you re-wrote the book. And this, this is just another one.
Annie: No, but it isn't! Please, just listen to me!
Ben: I am finished listening! You know, after months of  being lied to, I wouldn't believe you if you told me the sky was blue.
Tim: Ben, Annie really means what she says.
Ben: Oh, yes, she means it. See, that's just the problem. It seems you started to believe your own lies. Now, come on, both of you, get out.

Meg: You thinking what I'm thinking?
Ben: I'm thinking that these two deserve each other.
Meg: That's exactly what I'm thinking.

Meg: You don't think that they've been...? You know...?
Ben: Don't know, don't care.

Ben: Let me ask you something, Meg.
Meg: O.K.
Ben: If I were from around here where would I take a beautiful woman on a first date? [Didn't you just loved the way they were smiling at each other?]
Meg: Dancing.
Ben: And is there a particular place that is good for that around here?
Meg: Well, there's just one place that is good for that and it's just over the county line.
Ben: And what's it called?
Meg: It's called the Buckaroo.
Ben: The Buckaroo. Well, then let me ask you something else Meg Cummings. Would you like to go dancing with me at the Buckaroo tonight?
Meg: Yes, I would.

Ben: You were pretty good out there. What was it?
Meg: It's called the Texas Two-step.
Ben: I think I managed to throw a three step in there somewhere.
Meg: Well, you were actually pretty good, considering it was your first time. ["Pretty good"? He was SENSATIONAL!!!]
Ben: Well, I think I have my partner to thank for that. We make a good team, Meg.

Annie:( to Tim, as she arrived in Kansas ) Look at me. I'm a total mess. You know, I chased Ben 2000 miles away from home and look where I am. I'm in the middle of Yahooville, in the back of a pigsty on wheels, smelling like a poker gone bad and looking like Annie Oakley on LSD!

Tim and Annie wake up in the back of Tim's pickup truck after a night of drinking at the Buckaroo.  The truck is half in and half out of a cornfield.
Annie: (waking up) What's that smell?
Tim:  Huh?
Annie: That smell?
Tim: Oh, that's pigs, Annie.  My old man, he must of used the truck to transport 'em.
Annie:  Don't tell me we spent the night in hog heaven.
Tim:  Well, it sure looks that way.

Annie:  Wait, I am having a vision.  Meg and Ben on the dance floor acting like Fred and Ginger at the Kangeroo.
Tim:  Annie that's ...that's Buckaroo.
Annie:  Whatever!!!

Joan: I think Ben can have wonderful time anywhere, as long as he's with you.
Meg: I don't know that, Mom.
Joan: Oh, honey, it's time you face the facts. The man is in love with you, it's plain as a day.

Joan: White roses! Meg, they're your favourite!
Meg: I know that, Mom.
Joan: Now, you can't get those in Ludlow this time of the year. Did you have them flown in?
Ben: It's not so difficult or impossible when it's for the woman you love.

Meg: Please, go back to Sunset Beach.
Ben: I'll do just about anything for you Meg, but not this.

Meg: Please, just... just go.
Ben: Meg, I can't. You are the one I love, not Maria. And I'll do anything to prove that to you.
Meg: Then leave, go back to Sunset Beach, please...
Ben: Why do you keep asking impossible of me?

Meg: You have no idea how much you're hurting me and I just can't stand it anymore. Let go of me, Ben!
Ben: Hey! Never!

Ben: What matters is that I hurt you. Deeply. And I am... I am so sorry... I know it's ridiculous. I should be down on my knees, begging you for forgiveness for everything that I've said and done to hurt you, instead, I'm just making everything worse. Look. I'm... I'm not used to talking about love, you know. I'm not very good in that. I only wanna protect you, Meg. Love you the way you deserve to be loved. The way I know I can. Please, forgive me. Because I'm afraid if you can't, we'll be apart... you know, I don't think I can make that. Please, Meg...
Meg: Even if I could forgive you, there is one person I could never forgive.
Ben: Who's that?
Meg: Myself. You don't understand. What happened between us in the cave...
Ben: It's over. It's in the past and we both have to forget that.
Meg: I can't. Look, it's different for me. I knew what was going on. I knew that you thought that I was Maria. I am so ashamed of this!
Ben: Why?
Meg: When I was making love to you in the cave you thought you were making love to Maria. And I wanted you SO badly that I would have done almost anything just to have you for even one moment. I thought that somehow you would know that it was me, that it would be so special you'd realize that it was me you were making love to. But you didn't and I did it anyway and I hate myself for that.
Ben: Meg, I am so sorry. But it doesn't matter. I  love you... Now even more that I did before.

Meg: You know how I felt when I realized that you thought I was Maria? Every word you said was like a little knife in my heart.

Ben: It was your face and it was you I was making love to, because you were my ideal.
Meg: Well, you sure did have strange way of showing it.
Ben: Look, I wish I could make you understand. Meg, you are a beautiful, caring, compassionate, loving woman. You're everything I wanted Maria to be. Everything she wasn't. She didn't know how.
Meg: Ben, I can't be this perfect ideal for you, either.
Ben: Meg, I don't want you to be. I love you just the way you are. And I can't imagine ever loving anyone the way I love you.

Ben: For once nothing's clearer for me as the way I feel about you. You know, when you left Sunset Beach...
Meg: Look, I'm so sorry if I hurt you, Ben.
Ben: I couldn't bear it. You know, my life wasn't complete without you and I didn't realize that till you went away.
Meg: So, you followed me here to Kansas?
Ben: Look, I know you were upset to see me, but, you know, when we were dancing last night and I held you in my arms, you know, I was certain I did the right thing. You've changed my life, Meg. You fill it, I know that. C'mon, just admit it to yourself.

Meg: Don't you see it's no use? No matter how much we care about each other, no matter how much we try, no matter how much we love... we can't do...
Ben: So, you do love me?
Meg: Yes, I love you! God, yes! Yes! I love you!

Ben: I know you love me and you know I love you. C'mon, how can it be right for two people who love each other as much as we do to be apart?
Meg: Sometimes when you love someone it causes more pain than happiness.
Ben: But it's not gonna be that way for us.
Meg: How do you know that?
Ben: I feel it here. (he points at his heart) Just like you did when you left Tim at the altar and came to Sunset Beach in search of love. In search of me. You were following your heart.
Meg: Well, I have to wonder sometimes if my heart did lead me in the right direction.
Ben: What are you talking about? Of course, it did. We've found each other, didn't we?

Meg: I can't stand it anymore. I can't take any more pain.
Ben: Look, I'd give anything to make you feel safe and to take away all the pain I've caused you.
Meg: If you mean that, if you truly mean that then you will leave right now and go back to Sunset Beach and let me get on with my life.
Ben: I love you Meg very much. If that's what it takes to make you happy, then yes, I'll do it. But I want you to be sure. So, I'm gonna go and pack, but I'll be back and if you still want me to go, then I'll go.( He turns to leave, but then turns to Meg again) I'll be back.

Ben: Just hear me out. You know how I feel about you and if you need me to keep telling it, I will. But there's something I haven't told you. I can go to Sunset Beach without you. I can even pick up my life without you. But there won't a day go by when I wouldn't think about you and believe that we gave up something that most people would never see at their lifetime.
Meg: I know.
Ben: And you still want me to go? (Meg starts to cry) Give up on love, true, honest, passionate love? Everyone deserves a second chance, Meg, and I'm not talking about me, I'm talking about you. Come back to Sunset Beach with me. Come back and let me prove to you that you were right to come to Sunset Beach.
Meg: I wanna make it work as much as you do, Ben.
Ben: Then, what's stopping you?
Meg: I'm afraid.
Ben: I know. So am I. But that's the risk I'm willing to take. (Meg turns away crying) Obviously, you're not. ( He makes to turn away, stops) I'll... I'll always love you, Meg.

Joan: Honey, I just want you to be happy. And some day, I'd like you to be able to say : "I tried to fly. First I crashed, but then I tried again. And that's when I soared!"

Ben:  You should never give up on your dreams. Without them, life isn't worth living.

Ben: What am I gonna do without you, Meg?
