On this page you will find all the best and my favourite quotes from the period of Ben and Meg's story I called Conspiracy Theory , or in other words - to Annie's rescue - the time the two of them joined forces to help Annie find the murderer of her father. Many of you still believe that was the best period in Ben and Meg's relationship. So, enjoy!!!

Ben: (to Meg) You're amazing. How did I ever get by without you?
Travel
Agent: So, where do you want to go, love birds?
(Ben&Meg
speak together)
Ben:
Mountains!
Meg:
Beach!
Ben:
It's okay, we can go to the beach.
Meg:
Oh, no, no, no! The mountains are WONDERFUL, sweetie!
Travel
Agent: Mountains, okay. Oh, you know, I have some great skiing package
this time of the year.
Meg:
Skiing? Skiing? Oh, I'm sure you'd just LOVE to go skiing again
wouldn't you?! Maybe find another lap dancing ski instructor?!
Ben:
Nothing happened between me and Jody!
Meg:
You remember her name?!!!
Ben:
So, I'm... I'm good with names!
Meg:
Oh, you... You're good, all right! I'm sure this little she-devil Jody
knows how good you really are, doesn't she?!!!
Ben:
We
were... We were snowed in! It was an avalanche, for God's sake!
Meg:
I'm sure I know just how you kept warm!( she starts "crying")
Ben:
Oh... Please, could you?
Travel
Agent: Yeah, yeah... It's okay, we'll find something else. (Ben
starts searching the files in the computer ) Oh, you know what, sir,
don't play with the computer, okay?
Ben:
It's okay, I'm always on the internet. Look darling, I'm gonna find
us a nice, warm beach vacation. How does Aruba sound?
Travel
Agent: You know what, sir, I REALLY can't let you play with the computer!
Okay? ( she wants to approach him, and Meg tries to save the situation)
Ben:
Oh my god! I hope she doesn't go off the deep end again. Last
time she tore the place apart.( Meg throws the newspaper )
Travel
Agent: ( insecurely ) Ha, ha, ha...
Ben:
Here's
Aruba. It's got a cruise package. How does that sound, baby?
( the woman
tries to approach the computer again, but Meg stops her )
Meg:
Do
you now where I found them?
Travel
Agent: Where?
Meg:
In the hot tub! Naked!
Ben:
Oh, darling! The doctors told us to warm up as soon as possible!
Meg:
Oh! and I'm sure those margaritas were for medicinal purposes, weren't
they?
Ben:(
has found what he has been looking for, approaches Meg and puts his arms
around her shoulders ) I love you sweetheart. We'll go anywhere
you want. [ I believe this was actually the
first time Ben told Meg those three little words...]
Ben:
(
to Annie ) This is the person you should thank. Her name is Meg Cummings.
Without her we wouldn't have had any of this evidence. Meg has been
nothing short of amazing! Every time she ( Travel Agent ) wanted
to get near the computer Meg would burst into tears. She should get the
Academy Award!
Meg:
No, come on, you should have seen Ben and all of his charm... It was easy
to pretend to be in love with him..
Ricardo
catches Meg and Ben hiding in the stall in hospital's men's room:
Ricardo:
Classy
guy, Evans.
Meg
and Ben are being taken to the police station for helping in Annie's escape:
Meg:
So,
what happens now? We have our fingerprints taken and a picture taken? I'm
having a bad hair day!
Ben:
What is it gonna take to convince you! I had nothing to do with Annie's
escape!
Ricardo:
That's the problem, Evans. Nothing you say will ever convince me.
Meg:
Then listen to me! Ben had NOTHING to do with Annie's escape! He didn't
even know what she was planning!
He
told me himself!
Ricardo:
Oh, she's good! But I'm not buying it and let me tell you why. First of
all, Annie's not the type who'd commit suicide, you know it better than
anyone...
Ben:
Unless someone drove her to do it...
Ricardo:
...Secondly, it was pretty coincidental that you were so close to that
squad car when it crashed against the garbage can. Such a convenient
distraction, at the precise moment that your lackey started choking and
I have to help her! Oh, and let's not forget your sitting cheek to cheek
in the stall in the men's room! And you really want me to believe that
you had nothing to do with Annie's escape? Imagine, what you could do if
you tried, Evans?
Ben: (to Meg) Well, Ricardo was right, you're good. Very good.
Casey:
You're
becoming major Nancy Drew over here.
Meg:
No, it's not me. It's... it's Ben. I can't not help him. He is so
cool and determined and passionate. It's like, he'd go to the wall to help
a friend, like Annie... he'd do anything.
Casey:
And
you'd do anything to help him.
Meg:
I'd do a lot. I really admire him.
Casey:
I can see that.
Tim:
Why did you tell Ben we were just friends? You have a thing for him?
Meg:
No, I don't have a THING for him!
Tim:
But I can see it!
Ben:
You look down. Is it Tim? You are more than friends, aren't you?
Meg:
I really don't want to talk about this, okay?
Ben:
Fine. I know a bit about not wanting to talk. [Now
THAT'S an understatement!]
Ben:
Meg, listen, you've been incredible to me. And to Annie. But from here
on it's a lot tougher and I wanted to ask you, be honest. How deeply are
you willing to go?
Meg:
All the way.
Meg:
Man
I've got to know over past few weeks wouldn't kill anyone. I believe that
and you do, too, deep down inside.
Ben:
You
don't know who I really am deep down or what I'm capable of, so I think
you should go.
Meg:
You
know what? I do know you. I don't know how, but I do.
Annie: You touch him Meg and you're dead. (Meg DOES touch Ben) You're dead.
Ben:
It
feels so good. You really are amazing, you know? Besides all your other
talents you do the first class neck massage. Thank you.
Meg:
You're welcome. Well, I'll better be going. I've got something to take
care of...
Ben:
Well, there is one more thing you could do for me. When you're at work
tell everybody that boss isn't going to come up with something crazy like
shoot himself.
Meg:
It's exactly what I was going to do... (Ben gives her THE look)
What?
Ben:
No, I was just wondering how in such short space of time you managed to
get to my head, you know what I mean?
Meg:
Must be kismet.
Annie:(raises
from the dead and Ben is a bit "overwhelmed") It's me. In flesh.
Ben:
Where
the hell have you been?!!!
Annie
explains to Ben where she's been. She's a bit caught up with the story...
Annie:
Of course, when I stopped caughing I promised him money to keep his mouth
shut. A year salary.
Ben:
Have
you any idea what I felt when I saw the ashes from the cascet?
Annie:
...I was hoping you could give me the money, you know, for the bribe, and
I would pay him off to keep him silent and everybody would think that I'm
still dead...
Ben:
You haven't heard a word I've said to you?
Annie:
...much to our advantage. We could prove my innocence and bring Olivia
to justice for killing my father. .....Did you say something?
Ben:
Right
now what you should do is take a shower and put yourself to sleep.
Annie:(lustfully)
Well,
that sounds good to me.
Ben:
I'll prepare the bed in the guestroom.
Annie:
Who's gonna sleep there?
Ben:
You are.
Annie:
No, I'm not.
Ben:
Then
I will.
Annie:
Over
my dead body.
Ben:
Don't
start!
Mark:
You two sure have been spending a lot of time together.
Meg:
Yeah,
we have. You know, it's weird. It's like we're on the same wave length.
I know exactly what he's thinking and he knows exactly what I'm thinking.
Mark:
Well, I guess it was just a matter of time...
Meg:
What?
Mark:
You know, you two got to know...
Meg:
Yeah?
Mark:
Dorothy and SB are together, who'd have ever thought it...
Meg:
What did you just say?
Mark:
Nothing important.
Meg:
Yes, yes, you did. Mark what... What's going on?
Mark:
God! I gotta keep my big mouth shut.
Meg:
No, no, no, no, you don't, it's really important to me! What..?
Mark:
I guess. Meg, it's getting to big for me to keep it to myself.
Meg:
OK, did Ben tell you that he's SB? Did he actually say his chatroom
name is SB?
Mark:
I've
been working for him for a long time. There's not a lot I don't know about
Ben Evans.
Meg:
O.K. Why didn't you tell me?
Mark:
I couldn't.
Meg:
Why?
Mark:
Because it didn't seem right to tell you first, and then later when you
didn't wanna know I figured it was better that you never figured it out.
I didn't know what to do, Meg. Sorry. You understand?
Meg:
No, no, I don't. I don't get it, I just...
Mark:
The point is that you know now.
Meg:
Wait a minute, O.K., wait. If Ben is SB, then why didn't he come to the
pier that day, when he promised me he would come at sunset last time?
Mark:
He couldn't because at this particular moment he was held up so to speak.
Meg:
What?
Mark:
That was the day that Annie was arrested. She held him with the gun in
his office.
Meg:
Oh my God, that's right!
Mark:
Yes.
Meg:
That's the day she shot him!
Mark:
Ben showed up at the pier, but by the time he got there you were already
gone.
Meg:
I don't believe this.
Mark:
So...
Meg:
I
don't believe this... I'm gonna tell him.
Mark:
Now?
Meg:
I'm gonna tell him. Yes, now! I've already wasted enough time.
Meg:
Look,
I am so sorry, Ben, I really am!
Ben:
We
have to talk.
Meg:
No,
we don't!
Ben:
Yes,
we do. We have to talk about what you saw upstairs.
Meg:
You
don't owe me any explanation, okay?
Ben:
Look,
I'm terribly sorry, I should have told you about this.
Meg:
No,
no, you shouldn't have. It's your business.
Ben:
Yeah,
now it's out in the open, you understand why I have to be discrete.
Meg:
Oh,
you were perfectly discrete. I'm the one who barged into your bedroom and...
Ben:
Whatever.
You have to promise me you won't tell anyone.
Meg:
Why
would I tell anyone? It's none of my business who... You should be able
to be with whomever you please, okay?
Ben:
Look,
she was just taking a shower, that's all, nothing was going on!
Meg:
Just
don't explain, okay? God! It just shows how totally wrong you can be about
someone! Here I think that you were some outstanding, caring, compassionate
guy. God, was I wrong! How can you be so selfish, Ben? Your friend Annie
hasn't been even dead for more than three days and you're already out picking
strange women?
Ben:
That's
what this is about!
Meg:
I
see some strange woman in your shower! What else am I supposed to think,
Ben?
Ben:
This
woman upstairs means nothing to me. I was just looking for a little comfort.
I don't even know her name.
Meg:
Why
did you have to go to a stranger? I mean, I was there, right? Why didn't
you come to me?
Ben:
You?
I never realized you felt that way...
Meg:
No,
no, I mean... I didn't mean it that way! I... I wouldn't... I... I couldn't...
I mean, since Annie hasn't been dead long. Okay, I know that it sounded
really terrible. Not that that would be so terrible...
[now, didn't you just LOVE that scene???] Okay,
look, the point is I wouldn't have even come here unless I wouldn't have
found out that...
Ben:
Found
out what?
Meg
remembers: "Ben Evans is SB."
Ben:
Meg?
What are you talking about? What did you find out?
Meg:
It's not that important, Ben.
Ben:
You told me you came here because you wanted to tell me something. What?
Something about me?
(upstairs,
Annie throws a book on the floor)
Meg:
Oh,
that's right. You have company. I'm just gonna leave.
Ben:
You don't have to go anywhere, she can wait!
Meg:
You don't wanna be rude, Ben!
Ben:
Meg!!!?
Meg:
Just
forget it, okay? (she storms out of the house)
Ben
to Annie as Meg rushed out of the house:
Ben:
That
was subtle! What did you do? Drop an antler?
Annie
is all over Ben in a pathetic attempt to get him to sleep with her:
Ben:
We can't!!!
Annie:
Yes, we can!
Ben:
No,
we can't! I have to go!
Annie:
Is this about Meg?
Gregory: (to Ben) You really don't trust anybody, do you?
Ben:
This has gone way too far! First you're dead, then you're not dead, then
Meg's walking on you in the bathroom, then you leave your robe for Gregory
to see...
Annie:
No, I didn't do THAT on purpose!
Annie:
So, you plan to give me couple of bucks and then get me over the border
to Mexico? And... and then it's "Adios"? I mean, what am I supposed to
do?
Ben:
Get your fill of margarita while I find out who killed your father so you
can come back to Sunset Beach and turn it upside down.
Annie:
Why am I getting the feeling that I'm gonna be having that siesta until
I'm 70 while you cozy up here with Sweet Little Miss Sunshine?!
Ben:
What has Meg to do with this? Don't tell me you're jealous of Meg Cummings?
Annie:
Oh, Ben, give me a break! [ Yeah, Ben, give
us a break!] I mean, she's got the key to
your front door, she walked in storming in here like she owned the place!
I mean, I've been trying to storm this place for three years and she does
it in three DAYS! [ And that's not the only
thing Meg "stormed" and you didn't!!!]
Ben
finally leaves the house telling Annie he has to go to The Deep:
Annie:
Meg works in The Deep, doesn't she?
Ben:
What
do you think you're doing discussing my business behind my back?
Meg:
What
are you talking about?
Ben:
You
just told Mark you saw that woman in my bedroom.
Meg:
I
think you know me a bit better than that! I would never tell Mark anything
like that! Or anyone else!
Ben:
I
don't know you any better than that. In fact, I hardly know you at all!
Meg:
You
know me better than you think!
Ben:
Yeah,
well, sometimes it seems like I do. Then, tell me, what were you talking
with Mark about?
Meg:
Forget
it. It's nothing.
Ben:
Nothing?
It must have been important enough for you to march right into my bedroom.
Meg:
Look,
I'm sorry, I just get carried away sometimes. Everything's changed since
Annie's death. I know I'm just an employee, but I was hoping I could be
your friend, too.
Ben:
Of
course you are. And I appreciate your concern.
Meg:
I
have to admit, I was a little shocked when I saw that woman in your bathroom.
Look, could we just forget we had this entire conversation? (she's close
to tears)
Ben:
Hey,
Meg?
Meg:
There's
something I have to tell you, about me, about us. About where I'm from...
[
And that's where Annie butts in, not for the first, nor the last time]
Ben:
Excuse
me! ( to the Green-Eyed Monster) Have you gone completely insane?!
What the hell are you doing here?!
Annie:
I'm
checking up on you and obviously you can't keep your hands off Little Mary
Sunshine!
Ben:
What is it with you, Annie? Do you wanna go to jail? Do you wanna be put
on stand for murder?
Annie:(
lustfully ) You know what I want.
Ben:
Then why won't you let me protect you?
Annie:
Is it me you're trying to protect or your precious little Meg?
[The answer to it, Annie, is: his precious, little Meg]
Meg
demands of Ben to tell her what is between him and Annie:
Annie:
Look,
what we have can't be sumed up by one word, can it, Ben?
Ben:
Huh? Oh yes, it can. Friends.
Annie:
What?!
Ben:
(to
Meg) That's what we are. Same as you and me.
Annie:
I wouldn't go that far!
Meg
discovers that Annie's alive and has been lying to her. The emotions are
flying high all over Ben's place:
Ben:
Okay, okay, okay... I think this is gonna be a long night! I'm gonna go
upstairs to make a phone call. Just try not to kill each other when I'm
gone?!
Annie:
So, if you tell him that you are his cyber lover I promise you he's gonna
shut down so fast you'll be pumping oxygen in the air!
Meg:
Maybe you're right...
Annie:(
trying to hide satisfaction) I know I am.
Meg:
So, I won't tell him that I'm the one he's been talking to over the Internet,
I won't.
Annie:
Good.
Meg:
I'll
just take my chance in connecting with him in flesh, HERE and NOW! [
You go, Meg, girl!]
Meg:
You know what you're reminding me of, Annie?
Annie:
No,
but I'm just dying to hear.
Meg:
Twisters.
We have them in Kansas. They're totaly unpredictable and totaly destructive.
Never care how much they destroy or who they hurt.
Gregory:
You
know, we never did finish our conversation. You know, the one about you
being the new woman in Ben's life.
Meg:
All
right, I guess I can't hide it any longer. It's just that I'm new in town
and I wanted to keep it a secret. It was just so stupid of me to leave
my robe lying out on the floor like that, but everything happened
so quickly. After Annie's death Ben was so completely devastated, I mean,
almost suicidal, and he needed someone and I just happened to be the person
who was there. Before I knew or we knew what was going on it... it just
happened. Ben!
Ben:
Hello,
Gregory. Giving my employee a hard time?
Gregory:
Employee?
From what she's been saying [ And that's where
Meg turns around and does what we've been praying for for weeks!]
she's a lot more than employee.
Ben:
(trying
to hide a grin) What was that all about?
Meg:
(trying
to come to her senses) Gregory was asking me questions about the woman,
who was staying in your house and about the robe and I didn't want him
to get any suspicions about Annie, so I told him it was mine.
Ben:
Oh!
Well, you did? Well, good thinking, Meg. I guess we should keep up appearances
whenever Gregory is around.
Meg:
Yeah,
we... we better do that.
Ben:
Her efforts to keep in secret the fact that you are alive are wonderful.
I mean, even recently, last night...
Annie:
Oh, really? What did she do that was so wonderful last night?
Ben:(remembers
how Meg kissed him and grins) Let's just say she went far beyond the
call of duty.
Annie:
Would you give me and Meg a minute alone?
Ben:
Yeah, I could use a shower. But when I come back, I don't want to see bloody
stains on the carpet, understand?
Annie:
What is it Mr. Evans that you're always so damn good-looking?
Ben:
Flattery will take you nowhere. [Listen and
learn, Annie]
Ben:( to Annie ) That should be my date.[ And that's where he almost loses his breath when Meg walks in looking drop dead gorgeous]
Gregory:
Can
you imagine my surprise when your roommates told me they had no idea that
you were dating Ben?
Meg:
I
told you, we wanted to keep it a secret.
Gregory:
It
didn't keep you from coming to this party together.
Ben:
Yes,
it was a big step for us. Annie's death brought us together and, well,
so soon after her tragedy, that we wanted to keep it a secret, but tonight...
[
And that's where Meg scored the second kiss and we all yelled "YES!!!"]
Ben:
Meg, darling, ready to go?
Meg:
Only
if you promise to tuck me in.
Casey:
Looks like you were having a good time. And Ben, he seemed better tonight.
Maybe he's regaining balance after Annie's death.
Meg:
Yeah, he's trying to focus on other things.
Casey:
Like you?
Meg
: You can't be serious. I can't just simply walk away from this now.
Ben:
You
have to. I can't let you take the risk of being accomplice to helping a
fugitive. I mean, God knows I am grateful for what you've done, but from
here on you can't be included.
Meg:
No,
I won't walk away.
Ben:
I
don't think you understand me. I'm not giving you an option. Now, you have
to forget you were involved, you have to forget you ever saw Annie alive.
You have to walk away now.
Meg:
You
can't make me leave! Not after everything we've been through.
Ben:
I'm
not doing this to be cruel. I care about you. I don't want anything to
happen to you.
Meg:
You
will be in this alone.
Ben:
There's
Annie.
Meg:
Yeah,
Annie! What if... what if she killed her father? Ben, what's gonna happen
to you?
Ben:
Well,
I appreciate your concern, but I know she didn't. Besides, this is something
I have to do, you don't. That's why you have to walk away.
Meg:
No,
no, no, I've... I've already made up my mind. I'm in this way too deep.
I'm in for a penny, I'm in for a pound. I'm not leaving. I guess you're
stuck with me.
Ben:
What
am I gonna do with you , Meg? [Oh, let's consider
options here? Kiss her? Profess your undying love to her? Or better...]
Meg:
My
relationship with Ben Evans is my business and my business only. And as
I recall you lost right to ask about it when you kissed Connie on our wedding
day.
Tim:
I told you I was sorry about that. Look, what's in the past is in the past.
Meg:
Exactly. Which as far as I'm concerned makes you a history.
Tim:
You
are the first girl I ever loved.
Meg:
Yeah, but not the last.
Gregory:
Hello, Meg. How are things going with Ben?
Meg:
Couldn't be better. [ And three!]
Ben:
That
was a surprise.
Meg:
Sorry about that. That was for Gregory's benefit only.
Ben:
Well, I hope not.
Annie:
I
think you've got hots for Ben!
Meg:
That has nothing to do with anything!
Ben:
You have any feelings for Tim?
Meg:
Oh, no, we're just friends.
Ben:Well,
he certainly seems very protective over you.
Meg:
Well,
he's just afraid I don't know what I'm doing, you know? But I do.
Ben:
I
know. You're bright and you're intuitive.
Meg:
Do you think so?
Ben:
Of
course. Like what you said earlier about thinking like something was about
to explode. I've been feeling the same way.
Meg:
You
have?
Ben:
Aha.
Of course, that has a lot to do with being around Annie so much. I've known
her for a long time. And things have a tendency of blowing up around
her. You see, Annie's what you might call Drama Quinn.
She's unhappy when something isn't going on around
her.
Meg:
You
know, it's hard to believe that you are such close friends. You're so different.
Like I was with my friend Tim. How do people like us pick people who are
so selfish?
Ben:
Probably because they need us.
Meg:
Has
Annie always loved you?
Ben:
Annie's
not the same as me and you in that she doesn't love.
Meg:
Not
even her aunt Bette?
Ben:
Oh,
no, no, she loves aunt Bette, but in her own way, you know, until she doesn't
have to do too much for her. You see, Annie tends to fixate on those people
who can get her what she wants and then, after a while, she gets bored
and moves on to someone new.
Meg:
If
people like that need people like us, than what do we need?
Ben:
I'm
not sure what people like us need.
Meg:
Do
you think you'd know if you found it?
Ben:
Well,
whatever it is, it's been missing from my life for a very long time.
Meg:
What
about your wife? [ And that's where we all
held breath and than exhaled in disbelief, as for the first time Ben actually
did not snap at Meg for mentioning his wife]
Ben:
My
wife? My wife suddenly seems long time ago.
Annie:
This is all Meg's fault!
Ben:
Meg?
Annie:
Yeah, Meg! He (Gregory) probably didn't believe you two were in
love, I mean, who would? So maybe he thought you were pretending to protect
me.
Ben:
That is the most outrageous piece of nonsense I've ever heard! And I've
had enough of your jealousy towards Meg!
Annie:
Ben...
Ben:
Sit down on the sofa and be quiet!
Ben:(to Annie as he caught her pretending to be Meg) What the hell were you thinking? What am I talking about?! You don't know what to think is!
Annie:
Ben, wait, this is very important! [It wasn't.]
Ben:
And so are keeping up appearances, Annie! I have two businesses to run
and it's also still important to make look like Meg and I are a couple!
Annie:
Well, I don't think this is such an appearance. I think you're actually
falling for this hayseed. [Well, Annie, that's
because he was...]
Casey:
Ben! I didn't think you would come.
Ben:(putting
his arm around Meg) I had some work, but I couldn't stop thinking about
someone beautiful.
Ben:
Look, it's late Meg, I'm sure it'll all make perfect sense to you in the
morning.
Meg:
Ben,
why can't you just explain it to me now?
Ben:
Because
I don't want to talk about it anymore tonight.
Meg:
This
doesn't make any sense. Why aren't you looking for Annie?
Ben:
I've
already told you.
Meg:
I
don't believe that you don't even care where Annie's gone.
Ben:
I didn't say I no longer cared where Annie was gone. What I said was I
no longer cared, one way or the other, if she ever came back!
Meg:
How
can you say that?
Ben:
You
of all people should know! She was just playing difficult and when she's
not difficult, she's infuriating. She thinks only of herself, she never
considers feelings of other people, I mean... Aside from that...
Meg:
Look,
I think I understand, okay?
Ben:
Anyway,
why are you so interested in how I feel about Annie?
Meg:
I
just wanted to know where the two of you stand.
Ben:
Well,
actually, I could ask the same question of you. You've put yourself in
a line enough times for her. She's been anything but nice to you.
Meg:
I'll
say...
Ben:
So,
why put yourself through the aggravation? Do you have some special need
to see justices done?
Meg:
In
the beginning I thought Annie was completely innocent. But now... I don't
know. Especially after her last disappearing act. Look, I'm sorry if my
doubting her innocence upset you...
Ben:
It
would take a lot more than that to upset me...[
Well, this time it was Mark who butt in, but the scene is sweet anyway...]
Meg:
Are
you okay?
Ben:
Do
I look like I'm not?
Meg:
No,
you just look like someone who didn't get much sleep last night.
Ben:
Maybe
because I didn't.
Meg:
Is
it because of Annie and what you said about not caring anymore?
Ben:
I'm
beginning to think you've grown to know me only too well, Meg.
Ben: ( to Eddie) If you harm her in anyway, I swear I'll kill you. [ I believe he would]
Ben: I never would have forgiven myself if anything happened to you.
Ben:
(to
Meg) Make yourself at home.
Annie:
She's already done that.
Ben:(to
Meg) You will sleep in my room.
Annie:
What? Don't you think she should sleep on your couch? You didn't give your
room up for me. All I got was the guestroom.
Ben:
You're
lucky you didn't get the corner of the garage.
Meg:
Thank you for letting me stay here.
Ben:
Stay
as long as you like.
Meg:
No,
I... I couldn't, you know, with Annie being here and... Well, three
is a crowd. [ I say lose Annie]
Ben:
Don't
worry about Annie. I think we spend maybe a little too much time talking
about her. After all, you are the one who was in jeopardy today.
Meg:
It's
okay. Yes, I was scared, but I knew that you'd come through for me.
Ben:
Yeah,
well, it pretty scared the hell out of me when I realized that Eddie had
you. I mean to see him holding a gun on you, I...
Meg:
I
felt the same way. When he shot at you and when I... I didn't known if
you'd been hit or maybe even dead... I felt like my heart just stopped...
I didn't know they made guys like you. I mean I thought that you only existed
in romance novels.
Ben:
Oh,
please, I'm not any romantic hero!
Meg:
No?!
You're always galvating to save some damsel in distress. The only
thing that's missing is your white horse.
Ben:
Oh,
yeah, and don't forget the armor!
Meg:
Well,
I'm... I'm serious. You're real life hero. My real life hero.
Ben:
Yeah,
well, only because you bring out the best of me, I mean, people wanna do
things for you, Meg.
Meg:
But
you go above and beyond the call of duty.
Ben:
Hey,
stop it! Look, you make it easy. I mean, everyone who knows you loves you!
Meg:
You,
too...
Ben:
Want
me to go? (Meg shakes her head) You want me to stay? ( This time
she nodes) Okay. I'll stay. For as long as you like... [
And, of course, Annie butt in AGAIN and we all looked around for some knife
to stab her in the back]
Annie: (to Ben) I want my freedom and I want the jewels. And now you're gonna go to the police and tell them I'm alive and they'll take the jewels?! Are you trying to help me, Ben or are you trying to get me out of the way?
Ben: ( to Annie, after she just couldn't help but butt in, as usually) How about putting that green-eyed monster back into post for just one minute?!
Ben:
Ricardo called. Suggested I meet him here. I'm hoping it's about the break
in Annie's case.
Meg:
Oh,
okay, so that's the reason you came...
Ben:
Well,
it's not the only reason.
Ben:
Annie's gone too far putting your life in jeopardy. As far as I'm concerned
if she makes it again, she's on her own. For good.
Meg:
You
really mean that this time, huh?
Ben:
It's
the only way she finally grows up.
Meg:
Well,
I guess now you can finally start taking care of your own life again.
Ben:
What
do you mean?
Meg:
Well,
Annie got you so consumed with her own problems and worries. Maybe
you can finally start worrying about what you need now.
Ben:
You
know something? You're absolutely right. ( A bit later that evening)
It's
just as we suspected. Eddie buried Sean's statement. So, now Ricardo knows.
Meg:
This
is... this is it! This is what we've been waiting for! Annie's finally
gonna be free!
Ben:
Not
just Annie. You know, what you said before was true. I've been totally
focused on Annie and in fact blind on anything. I even stopped to see who
or what's in front of me.
Ben:
I
can't remember the last time I did this.
Meg:
Neither can I.
Ben:
And
I can't remember the last time I wanted to do anything as much as I wanna
do this.[ I believe this one does not need
a commentary]
Meg:
Ben,
there's... there's something I have to tell you...
Ben:
(
smiling) Not now...
Meg:
You know, I forgot to fax a supply order...
Ben:
And that's worth risking your life for?
Meg:
No,
I guess not. Sorry.
Ben:
Look, you don't have to apologize. I'm just concerned about you. I mean,
Eddie Connors can be out there somewhere right now.
Meg:
I'm glad that you are concerned.
Ben:
Yeah, well, I just couldn't live with myself if anything happened to you.
Again.
Meg:
You know, when you rescued me from Eddie, there was something that I had
to tell you and until you kissed me earlier I hadn't felt as if I could...
(she
kisses Ben and he returns the kiss) [Go,
Meg!]
Ben: I'm sorry Meg... Look, I... I just think it's better if, you know, I know it's hard, but... If we don't ... see each other anymore. [ So, O.K., the only reason I put it here is the "I know it's hard" part]
Meg:
I
was talking about Annie. How... How you won't let her in even though she
cares a world about you. And now you're doing the same with me.
Ben:
I wish... I wish it could be different. But it can't.
Meg:
I don't understand.
Ben:
I know you don't. Believe me, I wish you could. The last thing I wanna
do is hurt you.
Meg:
Are you still mad at me? You didn't say a word all the way here.
Ben:
No. I could never be angry with you.
Ben:
I
was just thinking about the other night. I feel I should explain.
Meg:
Look, you don't... You don't have to explain anything.
Ben:
No, I want to. You know, there's so much I wish I could explain, but...
I don't really understand it all myself.
Meg:
I
don't wanna pressure you into anything...
Ben:
You're not, you're not. Look, you've been very patient, much more than
I deserve. It's just... Sometimes I feel there's a wall between me and
my feelings. And no matter how hard I try I just can't seem to put through
it. You know, I'm sorry, Meg.
Meg:
Don't be. Don't be sorry. Knowing you if you want something badly enough
you'll
find a way to do it. And maybe, you just need a little help.
Ben:
I'll
walk you home.
Meg:
No, don't bother.
Ben:
Hey, no! I prefer to walk you home because it's not safe with Eddie Connors
out there.
Meg:
No, thank you, Ben Evans, I don't need you to walk me home! ( Meg storms
out of The Deep)
Ben:
What the hell was that all about?!
[Okay,
so I know it's not really a relationship quote and all, but I just loved
watching Meg mad at Ben like that, it didn't happen often at that time]
Tim:
You know, I wanted to talk to you about Meg.
Ben:
I don't think we have anything to talk about.
Tim:
Yeah, yeah, I'm afraid we do. See, Meg, she's a good person, you know.
She's the type of girl that would rescue the bird fallen out of its nest.
Even take home stray dogs. She would do anything for someone she likes.
Even if she hardly knows him.
Ben:
What's your point, Tim?
Tim:
My point is that Meg likes you. If you do anything to hurt her you'll be
dealing with me. Hope we're straight on this.
Ben:(trying
to hide a grin) Very straight. Thanks for the warning.
Meg:
You really believe that I told him, don't you?
Ben:
Look, I know how stressful it's been for you.
Meg:
Oh,
yeah, and it's been so stressful to relieve some of my stress and go to
prison just for aiding and abetting a fugitive.
Ben:
No,
I don't think that's what you were thinking. But I would understand if
you told Tim just to blow off steam. What I don't understand is how could
you risk everything?
Meg:
I don't believe you! After everything that we've been through and you...
you doubt me? How could you?!
Ben:
I
don't wanna doubt you, but I find it a bit bizarre that Tim is out of his
way to tell me that he knows Annie is alive!
Meg:
Well, so do I!
Ben:
He also made it very clear that I should stay away from you.
Meg:
What?!
Ben:
Not that that should present any problem. You seem to be avoiding me like
a plague.
Meg:
I was angry with you, Ben! You have this way of making me feel like I'm
on the roller coaster. One minute I'm flying high and next I'm dropping
twenty stories!
Ben:
Which makes you angry?
Meg:
Yes!
Ben:
Angry enough to confide in Tim about Annie?
Meg:
I
am not on trial here. If I was angry with you and wanted to get back on
you I'd call 911 and tell them I saw a fugitive at 1303 Ocean Drive. But
I wouldn't do that! Why can't you believe me? Why can't you trust me?
(
close to tears she goes to the door and starts banging on it) Hello?
Somebody open the door!
Ben:
No one is gonna hear you. We're at night club, Meg.
Meg:
No one's heard me in here either.
Ben:
Look, I'm sorry, I obviously owe you an apology. After everything you've
done to help Annie I should have never doubted you.
Meg:
Look,
Ben, I'm tired and I don't wanna talk about this anymore... (Ben smiles
broadly) What?!
Ben:
You sound like me. I'm usually the one who doesn't want to talk.
Meg:
Except this time there's nothing left to say.
Ben:
That's
just the problem, Meg. I haven't said a thing. Look, I'm difficult. I know
that. And I know this is no excuse, but I can't always explain how I act
or how I feel. It's very hard for me.
Meg:
It's hard on the rest of us, too.
Ben:
Yeah, I know, you deserve better. After everything you've done I could
never repay you.
Meg:
You said that before. And I finally realized that I'll always end up right
back to square one with you. No matter what I do you don't trust me and
I don't know how much longer I can be on the outside to get in.
Ben:
I got scared, Meg. Someone betrayed me once and I don't know if I'll be
able to get over it.
Ben:
(banging
on the door) If somebody doesn't answer that I'll...
Meg:
What? You're gonna fire everyone?
Ben:
Maybe.
Meg:
Boy, Tim, you're sure not in Kansas anymore.
Ben:
You're from Kansas?
Meg:
No! Tim, Tim's from Kansas.
Ben:
Wait,
wait, wait, wait, wait! Tim, Tim... Tim! That was the name of the guy Dorothy
run away from just about the same time you arrived in Sunset Beach. I don't
believe it! You're Dorothy!
Meg:
SB meet Dorothy.
Ben:
You know I'm SB?
Meg:
You know, right now would be a great time to just click my heels and go
back to Kansas. Look, I'm sorry you had to find out this way, but it still
doesn't change what we had.
Ben:
What did we have, Meg? Some chats in cyberspace? Words on a screen?
Meg:
It was much more than that Ben, and you know it. You were someone who shared
my love of sunsets and white roses and...
Ben:
Venice
Meg
and Ben speak together: The most romantic city in the world.
Meg:
It was much more than words on a screen Ben. Those were our hearts and
souls up there. I trusted you with thoughts and feelings that I had never
told anyone before.
Ben:
Me,
too. Now share this with me. How long have you known I'm SB?
Meg:
For awhile.
Ben:
Well,
why didn't you say something?
Meg:
How could I tell you Ben? You didn't even want anything to do with me,
but I didn't find that out until I got here.
Ben:
Meg, I'm truly sorry. But at the time, that's how I felt.
Meg:
And
I felt like I had been kicked in the gut. I mean, here it was, my wedding
day, and I left my family and my friends to some strange place where I
didn't know a soul, except for SB. And it wasn't until I got here, that
I realized that he didn't' want anything to do with me. And it wasn't like
I even knew who he really was, and I couldn't find him, because he gave
me some phony address. I never felt so alone in my entire life.
Ben:
Why didn't you take the first flight back to Kansas?
Meg:
Well, I thought about it. And then I find myself on the beach, watching
this incredible sunset. And you know I'm a sucker for sunsets. But, I guess
you already knew that. And then suddenly Kansas is a million miles away.
And then I start thinking about what Elaine said, about Sunset Beach being
the land that romance built. And then, I see you.
Ben:
Yeah, I remember seeing you, too.
Meg:
And
I didn't know then that you were SB, but I don't know, I felt something,
you know? Some kind of electricity, something, some spark or something.
And I got the feeling that you felt it, too. Maybe if I would have said
something then to you, maybe things would be different.
Ben:
Why didn't you?
Meg:
Well, at that time, I was being robbed.
Ben:
Yeah, I remember. You had a lot of guts chasing after that thief all the
way to end of the pier.
Meg:
Well, they had my computer and my money, and I wasn't about to let them
get away with that.
Ben:
Even
if it meant diving off the end of the pier?
Meg:
Well, you know, what was I going to do? The railing gave way, and it was
that just that sort of day. But one good thing came from it. I met Casey.
Well, and then I started to think that he was SB, but I nearly poisoned
him to death when I mad him SB's favorite food. Would you believe that
Casey is allergic to strawberries? (Ben has a great big smile on his
face at that thought.) He ended up in the hospital and I realized then
that he wasn't SB.
Ben:
Well,
I'm relieved to know that your jumping to the wrong conclusions didn't
leave Casey with any permanent damage.
Meg:
Well, not as relieved as I was. But then there I was, right back at square
one. So, I e-mailed SB again.
Ben:
About meeting on the pier.
Meg:
We'd had this incredible connection, and suddenly he didn't want anything
to do with me. And I didn't know why, I didn't understand, and I needed
to meet with him face to face and find out WHY?
Ben:
I had every intention of meeting you, but I got sidetracked. If you remember,
that's the day Annie decided to hold me at gunpoint upstairs. By the time
I got to the pier, you were gone.
Meg:
If you hadn't gotten sidetracked, if you had made it to the pier on time,
would things be different between the two of us?
Ben:
I'm
amazed you didn't just go back to Kansas right there and then.
Meg:
Well, I'm from the Midwest you know, pretty stubborn there. Besides, I
liked living here on the beach at Surf Central with these great new friends
-- working for you. You know, late one night at The Deep, I actually told
you all about SB.
Meg
in a flashback scene: You know, who cares if I never meet him and never
will. I like Sunset Beach and I plan to stay. Anyway, I think if I ever
met him in person, I would just strangle him with my own two hands. You
must think I'm absolutely crazy. (Meg turns and looks to see Ben sleeping
with his head on his desk.)
Meg:
I
got so wrapped up in myself that I didn't notice you had fallen asleep.
So you see? I did tell you I was Dorothy from Kansas, only at the time,
I didn't know you were SB. But, I did know that I liked getting to know
you, Ben Evans, and suddenly finding SB wasn't as important anymore. I
loved the way that you asked for my help when you were dealing with
all of Annie's problems. I loved the way you trusted me, and worried about
me getting in over my head. It was like we went from being complete strangers,
to great friends, all at once.
Ben:
Yeah, well, you certainly proved your friendship that night after I thought
Annie had died.
Flashback:
Ben goes fully clothed into the ocean, and Meg run in to help him -- he
grabs her and pulls her close like he's fixing to kiss her -- but darn
he doesn't. [ I couldn't have put it more
accurately myself!!! I can still remember watching that scene for the first
time and hoping, praying for these split seconds and then... "Darn!" ]
That
night on the beach I felt as close to you as I had to anyone since...
Meg:
Since when? Since you connected with Dorothy?
Ben:
Yeah. That night on the beach. Is that when you figured out I was SB?
Meg:
Pretty soon after that.
Ben:
I
still can't understand why you didn't say something.
Meg:
I
didn't want to push you, and everything that was going on with you and
Annie and all. I didn't know how or if I even fit into your life. I wanted
us to connect in the here and now, and to see if what we had on the Net
was real. I know it is, whether you believe it or not. Our little chats
really opened up my eyes, and if I would have really been happy back home,
I wouldn't have let anything you said affect me. But it did -- in a big
way. I realized I couldn't spend the rest of my life in Ludlow, Kansas
married to Tim. Not when I knew there was someone like you out there. So
I took a chance and came to Sunset Beach. Maybe it was the wrong thing
to do, but Ben, if you... if you tell me that things aren't going to work
out between the two of us, and it was wrong to come to Sunset Beach, I
don't care. I'm not sorry that I came to Sunset Beach at all. Are you?
Ben:
Look,
I can't deny chatting with Dorothy meant a lot to me as well. So candid
and refreshing she was, I was able to open up the way I never expected.
Meg:
Took you a while, though.
Ben:
Well, I didn't exactly jump to it with both of my feet. But it didn't matter,
did it? Eventually I was able to tell Dorothy just about anything. I was
able to get to that part of myself I had closed off.
Meg:
If you felt so strongly then why did you ask Dorothy to stay away from
Sunset Beach?
Ben:
There's a part of me I may never be able to share. Even with Dorothy.
Meg:
But Dorothy didn't stay away.
Ben:Maybe
she should have. Maybe we should have. Look, you managed to... to touch
a part of me that no one else has been able to reach. But I honestly
don't know if I'm ready for anything more than close friendship. Or if
I ever will be.
Ben:
I'm beginning to see now why you are so weary of him.
Meg:
You don't know the half of it. On my wedding day, when I was getting ready
to walk down the aisle and I caught Tim cheating on me with my best friend.
Ben:
You were right to leave him. He should have been shot.
Meg:
Well, we don't do that in Kansas anymore. But I figured stealing his car
and embarrassing him in front of all of his friends and family was at least
partial pay back.
Ben:
How could you take it so light?
Meg:
Oh,
I didn't, believe me. I was extremely hurt in the beginning. But sometimes
good things come from bad, you know? Finding Connie and Tim together was
like a wake up call to me. I realized what I wanted out of my life. And
it got me to Sunset Beach.
Ben:
Where SB rejected you. No wonder you were so upset.
Ben:(banging on the door) Hey, anyone noticed the fact that boss and his star employee are nowhere to be found?
Ben:(to Meg) I tried to send you away, you stayed. I tried to keep you out of this whole affair with Annie, but you're involved. When I almost choke you tonight, you shake it off. It's amazing you're still here.
Ben:
Well, it was probably easier for you being trapped here before I told you
how Maria died. I mean, now you probably begin to think maybe Ricardo was
right. Maybe I am a murderer.
Meg:
Please! If anything, finding out about Maria makes me feel closer to you.
Ben:
Closer in what way?
Meg:
Well, now I understand why it was so hard for you to get over her death
and why you are the way you are.
Ben:
And how's that?
Meg:
I
don't know. Maybe what happened to Maria just makes you push people away.
Meg:
You
did all that you could do, Ben. And that's not your fault that Maria died
and you survived. And all of the guilt in the world is not gonna bring
her back.
Ben:
It's easy for you to say. You weren't there.
Meg:
No, I wasn't there. But I am a good judge of character and I know that
SB would have never killed his wife. It was an accident.
Ben:
I almost forgot who I was talking to. If there's one thing I have known
of our Internet chats is that Dorothy From Kansas is a cock-eyed optimist.
Ben:
I
promise, no more nightmares tonight.
Meg:
Actually, I'm not really afraid. I feel completely, completely safe with
you.
Ben:
I was just thinking the same myself.
Annie:
You
two must have gotten really close in that little wine cellar, didn't you?
Meg:
Yeah, it's incredible what you can learn about a person when you're locked
with him. At first it was a little awkward, but then, once we started talking
he really started opening up and I found myself relating to him in a way
that I never had before.
Annie:
Well, now you know how impossible it is to get close to Ben. He's never
gonna shake those feelings. I mean, if you're smart, you'll get out now,
before you're... you're in it all your head.
Meg:
I don't feel that way at all, Annie. I mean, now that I know all this about
him I just... I wanna be there to help him, you know, to hold him until
the pain goes away.
Tim:
I've
already told you. I'm not gonna do anything to hurt Meg and even if that
means keeping quiet about Annie. Even to my boss. And that's what I'll
do.
Ben:
Could I have your word for that?
Tim:
If you'd give me your word.
Ben:
What about?
Tim:
That no harm will come to Meg.
Ben:
I wouldn't do anything to hurt her.
Tim:
Really?
As far as I can tell you've been a bad news for her ever since she came
out to Sunset Beach. ( Ben has a flash of him choking Meg)
Ben:
What do you want, Tim?
Tim:
To protect Meg.
Ben:
And what do you think the best way for that is?
Tim:
To take her back home to Kansas with me.
Ben:
Then do it. You wanna protect her, so do I. Go ahead, take her home! Now!
Tim:
You're
in love with her, aren't you?
Meg: (to Ben) Safety isn't all I want in a relationship. I want passion and excitement. Just like I found it here. In Sunset Beach.
Ben:
Meg,
Eddie is at loose around. He'll do whatever he wants to get what he wants.
And I don't want you in his way.
Meg:
Ben,
he didn't hurt me before!
Ben:
No,
just scared the daylight out of you. And me. I mean, when I thought he
might've hurt you...
Meg:
Is that what this is all about?
Ben:
I'm the one who put you in danger, Meg. You know, when I saw Eddie holding
you on that gun point all I could think was : this is my fault.
Meg:
It wasn't your fault, Ben!
Ben:
You were so scared, Meg. Like the same frightened little girl you once
told me about over the Internet.
Meg:
You remember that?
Ben:
Yeah, you were playing hide'n'see and you were trapped in a tornado shelter.
I remember you telling me how alone you felt. How scared you were you're
not gonna get out there alive.
Meg:
Look,
that was a long time ago.
Ben:
Well, I saw that same fear in your eyes, you know, when Eddie held you
at gun point. That was the same frightened little girl all over again.
Meg:
No,
it wasn't. It was different because you were there. I knew that you'd save
me.
Ben:
I wish I could have been as sure as you.
Meg:
I never doubted you one minute. You may think that you put me in danger,
but I never felt safer.
Ben:
Look, I wish you could be safe with me. I wanna protect you, Meg. I don't
wanna anything to ever happen to you.
Meg:
Well, then, I guess the only way you're ever gonna do that is ask me to
move in with you...[ Now, that was
fun !!!]
Ben:
Yeah,
it will be strange without having Annie there all the time.
Meg:
Oh...
Ben:
Or you.
Meg:
I'm gonna miss it, too. I mean, life with you is like a roller coaster.
Scary, yet so exciting.
Ben:
What, you mean, you liked all that hiding Annie and running from the police?
Meg:
Putting out an act for Gregory pretending that we were in love...
Ben:
Yeah, that's right, I suppose... I suppose we're not a couple anymore.
Meg:
So, where do we go from here?
