Maybe, if I'd been a little bit more attentive to you we wouldn't be in this mess. You wouldn't be in this mess. I'm sorry, Meg. I'm sorry. I just didn't wanna hurt you, that's all. Now, look at you. Ben: Come on, Meg. It's me, Ben. It's SB. You know, it just occurred to me that we made a promise to each other a while ago. Remember our conversation about Venice? Well, we said, well, we vowed to each other that no matter where we were, we'd meet up one day and take a gondolier ride down the canal. Well, you're not gonna break your promise, are you, because it's awfully big boat for just one person and SB would be nothing without Dorothy. Meg: What about Maria?
Ben: What happened between Maria and me isn't important. What's happened between you and me is.

Ben: This. (he opens the box with a ring inside) I've been witing for you all my life. I hadn't known where I find you or how I'd meet you, but I just knew I would.
Meg: And here I am.
Ben: More exquisit that I'd ever imagined. Meg Cummings, wwill you do me the honour of marrying me?
Meg: Yes! Yes! (and they kiss...)

Meg: You know, I was just thinking about the Sunset Beach legend. When the Santa Ana wind start to blow, the sun sets over the ocean...
Ben: ....the first person you see at the far side of the pier is the one you're destined to be with. I always knew you were a romantic.
Meg: You know, from the first day I saw you, I believe in the love at first sight.
Ben: Well, you made me believe it.
Meg: Then believe this Ben Evans. I love you.

Ben: Thanks.
Meg: For what?
Ben: For you. You know, you're everything I ever dreamed of.
Meg: Ben...
Ben: Nothing would ever change the way I feel right now. Not time, not distance. You'll always be with me, here. (he points to his heart) No matter what.

[ O.K. I know some of you may argue that Ben was really talking to Maria, but I don't believe so. At that point Ben was more conscious than before and after, and besides, all the things he'd said he repeated more than once later when he was talking to Meg. Plus, as he explained to Meg in Kansas :  "There's only one voice I hear. There's only one beautiful face I see and that's yours. (...) It was your face and it was you I was making love to, because you were my ideal." If you're still not convinced, just think that everything Meg said was for sure 100% true and meant for Ben, and that's reason enough to put it here]

Meg: I want you to want me.

Meg: You know, I had such big dreams when I came here to Sunset Beach. I thought that we take one look at each other and you'd wisp me out my feet and carry away to the sunset. Guess I read too many romance novels, huh? Well, there's one thing that I want you to know, from me, Meg Cummings, Dorothy from Kansas, is that I love you and I always will, no matter what happens. I'll always carry a little piece of you right here, in my heart, for the rest of my life.

Ben: You're still here?
Meg: For as long as you want me.

Meg: We gotta take these clothes off and we gonna get you warmer. God, you're gonna die... I won't let you die, Ben, I won't.

Ben: You know, I dreamed of this moment. You and I finally out of danger, safe and relief on your face. I was really worried about you, Meg. You know, I tried to make you feel safe and comfort you. ( he notices Meg's sadness) Meg, what is it?
Meg: Nothing. It's nothing. I'm gonna go so you can get some rest.
Ben: Meg, the nightmare is over. We made out of the cave alive. We're fine. You should be happy. What's wrong?
( Meg walks away) How can you walk away like this after what happened between us in there?!
Meg: You remember?
Ben: Of course, I remember!
Meg: You do?
Ben: Yeah, I felt it for a long time.
Meg: Felt what?
Ben: The connection. Even when you were Dorothy From Kansas and I was SB.
Meg: Look, Ben, I've got to know: what exactly do you remember? What happened in that cave? Please, tell me, what do you remember?
Ben: Okay. Come here. I remember looking at your beautiful face, just like I am right now. I remember telling you how I fell in love with you and how I love you, Meg. With all my heart.

Ben: Look, I'm sorry for everything I've put you through. Just, when I thought I was gonna lose you I...
Meg: You risked your life to save me.
Ben: Just as you risked yours to save mine.
Meg: Guess that makes us even.

Ben: Now you listen to me, Tim, very carefully, cause I've got a bit of headache and I'm not gonna say it twice. I'd never hurt Meg. I love her and I told her so in the cave. So, why don't you get out of here and leave us both the hell alone?!

Mark: You're worried about her.
Ben: Yeah, I am. You know, when we were in that cave I thought... I don't know, I thought I might lose her. If that would have happened... I just want her to be okay. And happy, you know? I want to see that smile of hers again.

Ben: Yeah. More than I ever thought I could ever care about anyone again.

The message Ben left on Meg's answering machine, which she listened to over and over: In case you didn't get the other messages, I love you, Meg.

Bette: Hi ya big guy! ( handing him the bottle) Just a little welcome home gift to let you know how glad I am that you are alive.

Bette:( seeing the dinner prepared for Meg) Well, I can see a few hours on the rumble certainly didn't stop you!

Ben: Is there a point to it, Bette?
Bette: Well, I'm just doing my job.
Ben: Doing your job?
Bette: You are looking at the new gossip columnist for The Sentinel.
Ben: Heavens help us!
Bette: I'll get the last laugh there, big guy!
Ben: You know, I certainly wouldn't wanna agitate the town rumor so, how would you like the first tip?
Bette: Oh? Oh, what is it?
Ben:(innocently) Go home, Bette.

Ben: Look, you gave me quite a scare after the explosion when I couldn't get you to come to.
Meg: I know you were worried.
Ben: Do you also know I made you a promise? If you... if you were okay and we got out there alive I'd take you on a trip to Venice and we'd do that gondola ride we always dreamed of.
Meg: Ben...
Ben: You do still want to go to Venice, don't you?
Meg: Yes.
Ben: I've waited long time to share Venice with someone I love. With you.

Ben: I thought we'd have a little toast to our future.
Meg: Our future?
Ben: Yeah, come on, sit down.( he leads her to the sofa and they sit down)
Meg: So, cheers.
Ben: Hey, hey, we can do better that that, can't we?
Meg: Look, I don't know what to say.
Ben: Then let me. Maybe it'll make up for all those words I held back. All those words I held back. All those times I didn't tell you how I felt about you. ( he shows her the poem book ) From my school days... ( Ben reads "Where Does This Tenderness Come From?" ) When I first heard that poem I didn't know what it meant. I do now. ( he notices Meg is close to tears) Meg, are you all right?
Meg: I guess you haven't opened up like that in about four years.
Ben: If you take aside cyber chat over Internet. Look, I'll never hurt you again.
Meg: I wanna believe that Ben, but I can't.
Ben: Why not? What's stopping you now? Meg, what is it? What makes you think I might close off again?
Meg: You've done it before, Ben.
Ben: Not anymore. Not after what happened in the cave.

Ben: This is the only past I care about. Our past. (he plays Beyond the Sunset)

Annie: ( to Meg ) Ever since you blew in from Kansas you've been trying to shuck Ben like an ear of corn. [ And what's wrong with that?]

Annie: Are you trying to tell me that Ben liked your pathetic little performance?
Meg: Ben didn't like it, Annie. He loved it.

Tim storms into Ben's house and demands knowing where Meg is. Naturally, he looks upstairt to which Ben has the most wonderful look on his face...you know, the one that says, right, Timmy boy, that's exactly where she shoud be and where she will be soon enough...:
Ben: You think she is upstairs?
Tim: Maybe.
Ben: Locked away in a room I suppose?
Tim: I wouldn't be surprised, Ben.
Ben: Then again, I could have cut her into pieces and serve her as stew.

Ben: In fact, if anyone here is guilty of something, it's you.
Tim: I never sent my wife to the bottom of the ocean, Ben.
Ben: No, you just broke your fiancee's heart by making love to her best friend. You're scum, Tim, you know that? You're pretty much the lowest pest there is.

Tim: I wasn't the only one who did cheating.
Ben: What, are you suggesting that Meg was fooling around you?
Tim: You're damn right. With some loser from the Internet. Named SB.
Ben: Meg never would have turned to me if she'd be getting what she needed from you.
Tim: I know what you're trying to do. Justify your slizzy little cyber affair.
Ben: I don't have to justify anything. You're the one who stinks in all of this. You're the one who's had it in for Meg ever since she dumped you and got out to Sunset Beach.
Tim: I'm the one who's been protecting Meg ever since she came out to Sunset Beach. Protecting her from you. For all I know, you're the one who trapped her in that cave to die.
Ben: Well, however she got there, she came out alive and she came out with me. And if you so much as lift a finger to interfere in our relationship, you'll have to answer to me.
Tim: What you're gonna do, Ben? You're gonna kill me, too?
Ben: You know, the only reason I haven't done it already is because you're not worth the trouble. Now, get the hell out of here!!! I said, get out!!! [ I just love that scene]

Meg: ( to Annie ) Stay away from me. From me and Ben.

Ben: ( to himself ) Take all the time you need, Meg. You and I have the rest of our lives.

Casey: Ben, I hear you, but I don't think that Meg wants to talk to you.
Ben: That's because she doesn't believe I love her. Now, I have to make her understand that, Casey, but how am I supposed to do that if you'd stand there!

Meg: Look, I know that you'd never intentionally hurt me...
Ben: But I have hurt you, haven't I? I hurt you every time we get close and I pull away. But I'm not gonna pull away now!

Ben: Doubts are perfectly understandable, Meg. Now, I was just hoping you,  you know,  feel at ease, you know, that you know how I feel about you. After our experience in the cave.
Meg: So you do remember?
Ben: You keep asking me that! How can I possibly forget telling you I loved you?!

Meg: Look, Ben, I really wanna believe you.
Ben: Well, that's a start. Look, I know it couldn't be easy for you feeling that you've been competing with Maria's memory just as it hasn't been easy for me to put her behind me. But I have, Meg. Because of you. Now, I don't know why you hung on so long, but thank God, you did.
Meg: I was giving you the benefit of the doubt, huh?
Ben: Well, do you think that you could find it in your heart and give me benefit for that now? I mean, after all, it was your patience and belief that helped me get me over my past. Now I... Well, I feel I'm ready to move onto the future with you.

Ben: I don't expect you'll rush into my arms, Meg. I realize I have to prove myself to you. Show you that I'm as sure about my feelings as you've been about yours.
Meg: And how you...?
Ben: I'm going to court you. Make you feel as special as you are. As I've always known you were.
Meg: Since we met?
Ben: Even before. When we were just Dorothy From Kansas and SB over the Internet. You know, part of me fell in love with you back then. But I... I held back. I've wasted so much time. I suppose I needed a wake up call.
Meg: The cave-in?
Ben: Yeah. The idea of losing you made me realize how much I care and how every day with you is very precious. I suppose I shouldn't have been taking anything for granted, the way I have.

Ben: What did you once say to me over Internet? Even roses are not perfect. And you're not gonna let me make up for my mistakes?
Meg: Okay, Ben. I'll come to your house today.
Ben: Good.
Meg: Ben, I do wanna be with you and, more than anything, I want us to work things out.
Ben: So do I, Meg. And thanks for giving me a chance to prove myself to you. Show you how much I love you. I promise tonight will be very special. Just like you. ( he turns to walk away ) Oh, I almost forgot. ( he gives her the white rose ) I love you Dorothy From Kansas. I see you soon.

Bette: Hi ya big guy! Any skeletons in your closet you're gonna take out for me?
Ben: Bette, now really isn't a very good time.
Bette: I know, "not a good time", "come back later", "don't call me, I'll call you". Look! I am desperate! I have got to come up with some good gossip and I've got to come up with it now!
Ben: And what makes you think I've anything I'd like to share with you, Bette?
Bette: Oh, please! The Prince Of Darkness here is surrounded by so much mystery he could put Agatha Christie out of business!
Ben: Bette, I hate to disappoint you, but, honestly, I'm just an ordinary man, trying to have very ordinary life. ( he goes to open the door )
Bette: Yeah, and I married seven husbands out of love. ( she notices dinner prepared for Meg ) So, Mr. Ordinary Man is just having ordinary dinner, aren't we?

Bette: Okay. Let's make hard point now. What do you think about this headline : "Cave In Causes Courtship. Love Among The Ruins." ? Pretty catchy, don't you think?
Ben: You know what I think? I think none of this is any of your business.
Bette: Business? Business! Maybe this is all business. Maybe you're trying to seduce that sweet, poor, young girl so that she wouldn't slap you with a lawsuit, because you blew up the cave in the first place!

Mark: Meg, I don't get it. Ben buys you flowers, plans a special dinner for you, tells you he loves you. He finally wants to be with you and... Ain't that what you want? What's going on with you?

Bette: Hey, big guy! I certainly wouldn't kick you out of my bed for eating crackers. Or even salt for that matter.
Ben: Thanks.

Bette: Ben, I am sorry if that article has caused you any pain. I know what you've been through for the past few years.
Ben: I put all that behind me.
Bette: ( she notices that the portrait is gone) Hey, you have! Good for you! Ben, I'll do whatever I can to make this up to you.
Ben: It's not me I'm worried about, Bette. It's Meg. I'm just wondering what this is gonna do to her.
Bette: So... You really do love her, don't you? [ Duh!]

Mark: Look, do yourself a favor and call Meg. And if she won't take your calls you try find another way to talk to her. But don't give up. Because if you wait too much longer it might be too late.

Gregory: ( to Ben ) You look awful.

Gregory: Important thing is - keep fighting for what's most important.
Ben: Well, the old saying goes: What's worth having is worth fighting for.

Ben: ( to himself ) I'm not gonna let you run away, Meg. Not without finding out what happened in that cave.

Ben: Nothing is impossible when two people love each other. And I thought we loved each other.
Meg: We did. We do.
Ben: But what? You've changed your mind now? Is it because I pushed you away for so long?
Meg: No. Yes. You're confusing me, okay?
Ben: Why? Look, I'm being honest and offhandedly. I know I was wrong to push you away...

Meg: You know, the reason I went to that cave in the first place is because of the entry I read in Maria's journal, saying that it was your special place. And then I got trapped in there and you came to rescue me.
Ben: You know, I was in love with you already. I just couldn't admit it to myself. You know, I don't know what I would have done if something happened to you.
Meg: That's the same thing you said to me right after the explosion. And then you told me that you loved me.
Ben: So, that's as far as I remember. What happened next?

Ben: I have to talk to her, Vanessa. I can't let her go like this.

Meg: You know, I... I should have just gone home as soon as I got to Sunset Beach. I should have just turned around and have gone, because you made it very clear that you don't want anything to do with me.
Ben: I was a different man back then. I wasn't capable of love. But you, you tapped into my life the way no one's been able since...

Meg: I have a flight to catch.
Ben: There are other flights.
Meg: I gotta go.
Ben: The only thing that you have to do is what your heart tells you to and you know what it's saying right now.

( Meg's palm slips away from his, she gets into the cab ) Meg, please! Don't go! ( the cab drives away )  Meg!!! ( he watches her driving away )
