The tail kink was very common in earlier Siamese but is now considered to be a fault. The tail kink legend is probably the most well-known legend today. It was said that when the princesses and ladies of the Siamese court were bathing they would place their rings on the cat's tails, which then developed a kink to prevent the rings from falling off. |

| Another legend
regarding crossed eyes and tail kinks is that of two Siamese cats called Chula and Tien. These two cats and an old priest lived in a remote temple. When the priest died, Tien went out to find a new Priest whilst Chula, who was pregnant, remained at the temple to guard the Sacred Chalice which was a treasure of the temple. Guarding the chalice was a huge task for Chula but she refused to leave her duties so the curled her tail round the chalice and focused her eyes on it, staring fixedly. She did not move from that position, didn't sleep and wouldn't give birth to her kittens until Tien returned with a new Priest. When Tien eventually returned, Chula's kittens were born and because of her unmoving position whilst guarding the temple, her kittens were born with kinked tails and crossed eyes. |
