Her Past: Maria lived in Western Canada with her parents, and they had come out to
the island to celebrate her parents' 15th aniversery, only the parents
never made it. Shipwreck or wagon wreck, I haven't figured out which, but
maria survived and either made it to her present location on her own or
got some help from strangers along the way.
