Treats (No Tricks!) for Halloween From Ediets.com

Ghosts and goblins and high-carb goodies, oh my! It's that time of year again, when grocery store shelves just seem crammed with oh-so-tempting Halloween treats designed to trick you into going off your low-carb diet.
Eeeeek! Shrieeeeek! Before you fall into fatal-attraction-for-caramel-filled-chocolate-coated-marshmallow-goo, treat yourself in high style with these low-carb delights:
- Escape from temptation with new Carb Escapes! This creamy, all-natural, unbelievably rich non-dairy frozen dessert is high in fiber, calcium, and taste. My favorite: White Mousse Carb Escapes, which tastes like a combination of white chocolate and whipped cream. Just 1 gram of net carb per serving.
- Craving something hot and sweet, and dreaming of doughnuts and hot apple cider or hot chocolate? Quick, brew up this delicious substitute: one of the new Krusteaz CarbSimple treats, like the Fudge Brownie Deluxe Mix (9 net carbs per brownie), and a cup of Celestial Seasonings' fabulous herb teas. Perfect for Halloween: one of the dessert teas, such as English Toffee or Vanilla Hazelnut. Sweetly guilt-free: it has zero carbs!
- Candy is dandy if its low-carb. Thank goodness for Hersheys 1 gram Sugar Carb line, in flavors like chocolate candy with almonds. Because its made with sugar alcohols and fiber rather than typical candy sweeteners, its a great no-guilt Halloween treat for low-carb dieters.
Plan ahead (a key to success for any diet). Prepare a Halloween snack thats guaranteed to satisfy you. You'll push aside the red licorice and caramel candies if you have a platter filled with one of these tummy-tricking treats:
- Baked turkey or chicken wings. More stores these days offer turkey year-round. Take turkey or chicken wings, sprinkle with a dash of garlic salt and a dab of paprika, and bake until golden-brown and crunchy (be sure to use your meat thermometer so you can make sure it's safe to enjoy). Garnish the platter with parsley, and it's a meal fit for an Atkins Diet King or Queen!
- Go nuts. For example, macadamia nuts or pecans are permitted on most of the low-carb diets, depending on what phase you're in. So check your particular diet's guidelines. And if it's a green light food, savor the crunchy, sweet flavor of this terrific treat. Tip: if your plan limits the amount that you can have, "trick-proof" your serving by measuring out the allowed amount, putting it into a plastic baggie, and then helping yourself. That way, there's no temptation to slip into the "just one more" trap that arises if you're eating straight from the jar!
- What could be more perfect for Halloween than a platter of golden-orange deviled eggs?! Making them is simple and eating them is a delight. Just hard-boil six eggs. Peel them, and cool completely. Cut each egg in half and scoop out the yolks (no jokes about yolks, please!). Mash the yolks with about one-fourth cup of mayonnaise. Spoon the yolks into the halved eggs and arrange on a platter covered with lettuce leaves. Decorate them with a sprinkle of paprika. For optional crunch: arrange crunchy bacon strips or fried pork rinds around the edge of the platter.
