// goals for 2006.trivia

o I love trivia, really in any form that it comes. I love random facts and guessing games and all that good stuff. One of my favorite outlets for this has become NTN trivia (which, as it is a bar game, combines trivia with one of my other favorites, beer).

o The best score I have ever managed was something within the top thirty in the country, which is just enough to not get my name on the national boards. It’s a self-indulgent little goal (but, really, aren’t all of these?), but I want to see my name on the national boards, which requires me to have a score in the top twenty. However, I want to do that ten better and hit the top ten.

o By December 31, 2006, I will have achieved a top ten score in a game of NTN trivia.

This doesn't entirely relate to the goal, but it's close enough. When Brian and I were in Minneapolis, we played a late-night game of trivia at the sports bar next to our hotel. Long story short, I ranked twentieth in the nation, just enough to be on the national boards. It's not really that worth relating as it was so late, not many people of note were actually playing and therefore I achieved that twentieth rank without really trying (I don't think--I was pretty drunk). But, since I've already beat this goal, I decided to toss it down here for posterity (what little it affords).

Done! Three months in and I manage to knock this one out. Tonight I played the general Buzztime trivia game at Damon's with Brian, Matt & Val. I was so close to a perfect score it was ridiculous; I only missed full points on two of 'em, and not by horribly much as I ended up with 14144 out of 15000 points, 1000 points for each of fifteen questions. Everything was just connecting with some bit of trivia I knew, so when I wasn't sure, I at least had a good guess between the five options. The result? Fifth in the nation.
