// goals for 2006.army_of_pets

o This one has a prerequisite of my goal of finding a place to live. The person from whom I’m renting, my boyfriend Brian’s grandma, does not allow any pets in the townhouse other than those completely restricted to a cage. This means I was allowed to have my turtle in tow, and we currently have three fish, but no rabbits or rats and especially no cats or dogs are allowed.

o Since I plan on not having kids ever (or at least any time soon), I want to remedy this lack of fuzzy pets as soon as living conditions permit, especially now that I have the money to care for such animals.

o Brian and I would both love a cat. Past that, I would like a chinchilla, but because of the immense expense of these creatures, I will settle for a rat. Brian would like a bunny which I will adore because I will have finally have something to race against my speedster turtle. I also want to someday own some fire-bellied toads and a tree frog as well as possibly a lizard of some sort. We both eventually want a dog, but not until there is a yard in which it can run and do it's little business--actually, big, because I'm not putting up with yippy little prissy dogs--so that’s definitely more than a year off.

o But, by December 31, 2006, I will own either a cat, rat or both.

Awww, look, they're friends. That's not fear on Trevor(a)'s face, nor is there drool dripping down the Chairman's mouth. Not at all.

And we have cat! We actually did get him on February 4, as I had predicted in the last update. It was such a hard decision that we ended up having to leave the shelter and talk it out over a two-hour lunch. We ended up taking a short-haired black male who still has plenty of kitten playfulness but seems to adore people. He's been loving it here, exploring the apartment and causing havoc, but we're completely in love! I will soon have pictures, but other than that, this page is pretty much done as far as the goal is concerned.

This one might be sooner accomplished than originally thought. When Brian and I told his mom that we will soon be moving out, she finally let us on to the fact that we can, in fact, have pets and the only thing we had to do was call his grandma. Apparently the ban was not so much his grandma's prerogative (understandable because it's her place) but rather his mom's (ridiculous because she's just plain manipulative like that). But apparently when it came down between having to deal with a cat and her baby boy moving away, the cat was the lesser of the two evils. So, this weekend, February 4, we are going to the animal shelter to find a nice kitten to adopt.
