// goals for 2006.bowling_average

o I continuously want to take up an extracirricular leisure activity, but have never quite managed the part where I get out and actually do it. I actually have three that I would love to take up: soccer, golf and bowling. I played soccer in high school and miss it unbelieveably, but there simply aren't a lot of adult soccer leagues that are the level of casual I would need. Anyone still playing soccer in a pick-up game context at my age is most likely really really good.

o I love golf. However, small problem, I suck at it. And the time and effort that would go into making me a half-decent player is nothing worth the money involved up here in the Chicago area. If I were still in Hillsboro and playing for free at the public course, fine. But here I'm well aware that I have to pay $15 just to suck it up on a par-three course with rented clubs.

o So that leaves bowling. And, score, we found a place with $1 shoe rental and $1 games on Wednesdays. So if I can just get Brian to play with me, I endeavor to make bowling a fairly regular activity.

o But, just to give myself a more solid goal, I will achieve an average of 160 or greater by December 31, 2006. It doesn't seem like much, but I'm starting from zero--I've only ever bowled two games above 160 in my life. Wish me luck.

Games bowled: 2; Average: 104. Looking less and less likely by the day. I could never get Brian to go bowling with me alone, so we go with his coworkers. Which is cool, because they're pretty cool, but now that he and I are having so many problems, I don't really want to sit and hang out all night with people who like him and couldn't care less--call it vindictive. The result? Two months in and I've only bowled two games--a 100 and a 108. At least that's more consistency than I usually display. Anyway, probably consider this one tossed; I'm not giving up, I just don't have any high hopes whatsoever of accomplishing this.
