LIBRARIES
(JNU and Delhi)
No more excuses for good students to avoid the library: since 2001 we have AC!
-
To get
your colourful JNU library tickets, fill in a card in the library (Registration
Counter) and after a week you pick them up: BA/MA (4), Mphil/PhD (6).
- Meanwhile,
you can use books from the Text Book Section (not to be issued) with your
I-card.
- If you are not a JNU student and you want to use the JNU library, you must show an introduction letter by an
educational or research institution.
- Get a
library information brochure from the Management Section (mezzanine above
Reference Section).
- The "Rangamathan”
cataloguing system makes it a Herculean effort to find a book catalogued
as e.g. V,4473,M43 Y55 LO 'NO2. Don't lose hope, ask the attendants, though
sometimes language proves to be a Himalayan barrier to break.
- Or
fill in the Tracing Register (Reference Section desk) and check after a
week where the book is.
- The computer catalogue only contains books added in recent years.
- Lists
of articles on a particular topic in available journals can be found in
the Documentation Section (mezzanine above Textbook Section).
- Xeroxes
can be made on the mezzanine (main stair case), give your I-card in the
journal section to xerox periodicals. If the service is too slow, you can
ask other photostat people (e.g. in SIS) to get the books issued and xeroxed
for you. Always insist on back to back copies, even if they refuse.
- On
the 7th floor you find clippings from all major newspapers.
- PhD students
can get a locker, get the application forms signed by your chairperson.
- If you
lose library tickets, check with the General Counter and Textbook Section
before filling in a Declaration for Lost Tickets (Registration Counter)
which only has to be signed by these two sections (not by all 9 sections
mentioned on the form).
- Shortly we will get 15 computers in the library: hurrah!
- Two new
libraries (no AC) are on campus: the EXIM library (economics, 930am-530pm,
Sun. and holidays closed) and history library (10am-5pm, Sat. + Sun. closed),
both at the start of the way to Pashimabad.
- You can (ask your embassy to) donate books.
