History: Clarkston Plantation was founded in the 1820's. It started
as one of the only courses in the area. It grew from
9 holes to 18 in 1889 as the owners (my great great
grandparents) had decided to upgrade this to a first
class resort. The main reason for the upgrade was
due to the great fortune of their son Niles Clark. He
Discovered a perfected way to purify water. The device
was well ahead of his time and very usefull. They ended
up taring down the front nine, and buying more land.
The White Course was the first to be built. The next
course to come was years later in the 1950's. The
family was still filthy rich when the designer of
the next course proclaimed he was going to make the
best course in the world, a course where major
championships will be held and people will pay upwards
of a hundred dollars (keep in mind its the early 50's)
just to play 18 holes of golf at this course. The
Designer (my dad Kevin Clark) would later create this
course and name it the ridge. Though the course did
not live up to the high standards that were set, it
did earn him national recognition. He decided to
take a break from course designing untill one great day
in May of 1982 when he had his first male child.
Michael J. Clark. He somehow wanted Mike to get
into course designing. He took him to the old courses
at Clarkston plantation and taught Michael some good
stuff. By the time Mike was 5 years old he made 2
courses by himself, yes 5 year old boy designs 2
courses. The Devin, which is a pitch and putt, and
Suhalie Falls at the newly aqquired Clarkston Reserve.
Now that Mike is a teenager they have bought tons of
property, even some in space, all just for him to
design courses. You can look for all these courses
at your local JNSE site, for all of these courses
have been recreated for you by the famous course
		designer...
