2001 Palmer Woods Holiday Home Tour

Home 1

Although the lot on which this home stands was first purchased in 1924, construction did not take place until 1957, when the then owners, Dr. David Feld and his wife Barbara, chose Meathe, Kessler & Associates to design a home for their family. Their residence won recognition in a 1958 design competition sponsored by the American Institute of Architects.

A clear distinction between the two levels of the 2700 square foot home is apparent in the horizontal theme of the lower level, with its extended wall of patterned brick that forms the carport. By contrast, the upper story of white stucco appears to float softly over the beige-toned first floor.

Upon stepping inside the home, one is greeted by color at every turn. Walls of aubergine and persimmon are the background for many riotously-colored, hand tufted woolen rugs designed by artists in New Zealand.

For this year's home tour, the house is decorated for a February holiday-St. Valentine's Day! The reason: Valentine international photographers will follow in preparation for their own feature on this house filled with Love and Valentine collectibles. The owner hosts annual Valentine parties, dressing the house in the spirit of a child's party, with friends and neighbors dropping in for dessert. It's a way the house and the owner celebrate and underscore the importance of love and friendship. For those on the Palmer Woods tour, this stop is a Valentine's Day preview-a chance to capture the spirit of a holiday that's all about staying connected to the people and values that matter most in all our lives.
