This stately, Tudor-influenced French style brick and stone manor was built in 1924 by famed architect Richard Marr. The home was commissioned by George C. and Matilda Fisher. George was the only Fisher brother not involved in the well-known family's automotive business. He was, nonetheless, vice president of the flourishing S.S.Kresge Company. The home stayed in the Fisher family until 1970, when Matilda sold it two years after George's death. The second owners lived in the home through 1986, when it was purchased by the current owners. The excellent overall condition of the property can be attributed to the few and caring owners.
The most obvious and lavish feature to this magnificent home's exterior is the facade of the massive limestone entrance, which welcomes guests with an overwhelming feeling of grandeur. Inside are found marvelous examples of Pewabic tiles, elaborate plaster work, and rich woodwork throughout. In the gracious living room, the spectacular fireplace is a centerpiece to behold: carved limestone surrounded by intricate wood carvings of decorative reliefs, columns and busts.
Beyond the painstakingly preserved original features is a fabulous new kitchen-the true pride and joy of the homeowners-with its cherrywood cabinetry, gunmetal hardware, and stunning granite countertops. Not to be missed is the late 1800's furniture suite in the guest bedroom upstairs.
