The RNLI Lifeboat Service on the Thames!

MARCHIONESS DISASTER
20 AUGUST 1989

Twenty years have passed since that horrific event of August 1989. Some improvements in safety on the UK waterways have been made with much still to be done. One of the MAG achievements was to obtain  RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) lifeboats on the River Thames . Many now would like to take credit for this but it was MAG that fought an uphill battle to get the Ministry of Transport and PLA (Port of London Authority) and others to acknowledge the benefit of having trained rescue crews stationed along the River Thames.Beginning 2 January 2002 there is round-the-clock rescue service dedicated to providing a 15 minute response to emergencies.
These Lifeboats are now the most heavily used in the
RNLI Lifeboat Service
