| It was a scene worthy of any Malay hit movie.If not for all the publicity on the engagement of actress Erra Fazira and Yusry Abdul Halim of KRU,anyone who stumbled on the function yesterday would have thought that it was another film in the making. At precisely 3.20pm,an entourage of 33 led by Yusry's father,Abdul Halim Kamal,arrived at a double-storey house in Damansara.They were clad in red,carrying seven dulang' or trays of hantaran'(gifts) to be presented to Erra. However,there was one snag-the entourage was early! They originally planned to arrive at Erra's family home at 3.33pm,the magical time to match the magical date:3.3.03.But since it was not a film shoot,and there was no second take,the entourage moved on. At 3.50pm,Yusry's mother,Zarina A.W Fenner,walked towards Erra who was patiently sitting on a silver sias'(pelamin) and slipped a diamond ring on Erra's finger,witnessed by her mother,Azizah Zahid. It officially confirmed the much-talked-about engagement of Malaysia's two most eligible persons. Yusry arrived a few minutes later,clad in a matching silver-coloured baju melayu,his face glowing with happiness. He presented Erra with seven trays of hantaran,including the duit hantaran of Rm33,333.33.The other trays carried gifts like baju kurung, a pair of shoes,fruits and tepak sirih.Gamelan music was played during exchange of gifts. The ceremony was a closed affair in which only relatives and the couples' close friends were invited.Celebrities included director-film producer Dato Yusof Haslam, Raja Alawiyah and Didie Alias. Asked when they would tie the knot,Yusry said it would be any time this year "before December". The answer will fuel another round of speculation on their wedding date. |
