Parents
Dear Parents,

We are excited for the beginning of another year of UMYF, and we hope your child(ren) will join us.  Our first meeting is Sunday, Sept. 9.  We have scheduled a meeting with parents at 4:00 on that day to talk about the coming year and our needs in terms of volunteers.  Youth activities begin following the parents' meeting with dinner at 5:00 and fellowship from 5:30 to 7:00.

We have begun planning some of our activities for this/next year and thought you might like to put them on your calendar.  Childrens Sabbath, a worship service done by the youth, will be held on Oct. 14.  Our first fundraising dinner is scheduled for Nov. 11, and our annual Valentine pasta dinner will be on Feb. 10, 2008.  We could really use parent volunteers to help prepare and cook meals, bring desserts,  help serve and to clean up.  Our spring retreat will be May 2-4, 2008 at Spring Heights, the United Methodist youth camp near Spencer, WV.

This is our third year for JesusQuest, and we feel it will be a much bigger event this time and something you and your children wont want to miss.  It is scheduled for March 29 and 30, 2008, and the theme is the breath of God. Portal, the band which has been with us the past two years, will lead the music again, and Bob Stromberg, a nationally known speaker who we saw at SPLAT in July, will be speaking at our Saturday evening concert and our Sunday worship service.  He is a fantastic storyteller, comedian and multi-talented worship leader, and we are very excited about having him join us.  We think other groups will be too, and we are hopeful this will be the biggest and best JesusQuest yet.

As you see, we have a lot to look forward to, and we are very excited about the upcoming year.  We would be thrilled to have your child(ren) join us and for you to be involved in our activities as well.  Included with this letter is a list containing  descriptions of five volunteer positions we would like parents to fill.  Please know that the youth leaders will provide as much support as we can, and we are always available to answer questions or hear comments/suggestions about how things can be done better/more efficiently.  Please take the time to read about and prayerfully consider whether you would be able to help out by being one of our coordinators.  We will discuss these further at the parent meeting on Sept. 9 at 4:00.  Even if you are unable to be a coordinator, we can certainly use your help to support our activities.  One easy but very important way you can support us is to pray that our youth and we as leaders will continue to learn and grow together surrounded by Gods love.
