| I'll start at the very beginning. On July 1st, 1995, my aunt called my house and told my parents about an audition for kids that she had heard on the radio. It was to be a part in a musical (Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat) with a professional musical theater group called the Junior Musical Theatre Company. My sister (Jen) and my brother (Jason) were both really excited to go to the audition, but I was not exactly happy about the plan. I screamed and cried, until finally my dad got me in the backseat of our car and took me to the audition at CMBC. I remember walking into the room (grumpy of course) and as I walked in, Janna (my director) and 2 other girls' heads dropped as they saw a short 6 year old enter the room. I looked up at Janna and handed her my book of music and said "Page 27. I'll be starting in measure 5" Janna later told me that she was thinking "Any kid that knows the word 'measure' has something to offer." After singing my song and leaving, a week or two later we got a call from Janna telling us that she wanted to see me again for a second audition. So my whole family (yes we travel in packs) went over to Janna's house. When we got there, we went into a room with a piano and Janna handed me a bear (a stuffed animal). She looked at me and told me that she wanted me to make up a story about the bear. So I did. (I don't remember what the story was about, something about the bear getting lost or something). Janna had wanted to test my improvising skills, and when she saw that I could talk non-stop about anything, she accepted me into JMTC. I still remember my first day clearly. I was terrified. The first person I met was one of the girls that had auditioned me. Her name was Diane, and she was playing one of the narrators. She quickly took me under her wing and introduced me to my 11 brothers (I was playing the youngest, Benjamin). That's where I met people that I would be in JMTC with for years. Some including Edna, Jacqui, Jennifer, Beth and Josh. My last JMTC show ever will be this weekend, and I've never felt such strong pain in my entire life. I will miss everyone SO unbelievably much, but I know that we'll always keep in touch and I"ll never forget any of them. And I know they won't forget me because I'll be coming to EVERY show and visiting at JMTC all the time! They won't have the chance to forget about me! |
