How do I know if the existing basecoat is oil or water based?
Paint a small patch of your wall with latex paint. When it is thoroughly dry, scratch it with your fingernail. If it comes off, your base is oil.
What are some methods of removing wallpaper?
You can purchase a wallpaper remover gel, which is applied with a special type of roller. It will usually peel right off within 20 to 30 minutes.
Or, you can simply mix an inexpensive dish detergent with hot water and spray on with a spray bottle, then wait 20 to 30 minutes. This is the most cost effective method.
Can I paint the wood trim in my house?
Yes. We recommend you lightly sand the woodwork, apply one coat of primer before applying your color of choice.
Is there anything I can use to reduce the smell of the paint?
Yes. Just a simple household item, such as vanilla extract, can prevent unwanted odors. All you need is about 1/4 bottle per gallon of paint.
ANY SURFACE THAT IS BEING PAINTED WHETHER INTERIOR OR EXTERIOR SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE TWO FINISH COATS OF PAINT.
WHEN NEW DRYWALL HAS BEEN INSTALLED OR IF JUST REPAIRED, THERE SHOULD ALWAYS BE A COAT OF PRIMER PUT ON FIRST.
ALL EXTERIOR SURFACES SHOULD BE SCRAPED FREE OF ANY LOOSE PAINT CHIPS. IT IS BEST IF THE SURFACE IS POWERWASHED BEFORE SCRAPING.
REMEMBER TO USE ONLY MATERIALS DESIGNED FOR YOUR PROJECT. TO PROLONG THE LIFE OF YOUR PAINTED PROJECT.
FOR RUSTED AREAS , SUCH AS NAILS, ALWAYS USE AN INDUSTRIAL OIL BASE PRIMER. TO PREVENT RUST FROM REAPPEARING (SUCH AS DEUGUARD 4160) THIS IS AN ICI DULUX PRODUCT.
