| David Macon (pictured) is a Senior Citizen who came to the Center seeking to learn how to better defend himself against psychological abuse. Initially, the client has difficulty deciding between Chess Club and Enactive Modality group, finally choosing the latter. For his "Enactive Modality" (a must in Gestalt-Cognitive Retro-Neo Jungian Therapy - so as to anchor the rational insights meanwhille being gained in "Problem-Solving Group") Uncle Dave, as he is usually called, takes up the banjo - and nowadays, instead of 'obsessing', he just picks it up and plays - _especially_ when he's trying to think out subtle interpersonal problems - such as the manipulations of those who are called, in psychiatric parlance , "narcissistically personality-disordered"..... |
| We are about to see Uncle Dave utilizing the skills he learned in Enactive Modality Group. His new skill-matrix, as anticipated by field 16 of his Treatment Plan, has already helped him untangle two particularly mind-twisting narcissistic Gordian Knots, cut through a third, and harness an ornery mule.. The speed and intricacy of the music succeeds, where words failed, in first encoding and then deciphering the finely-detailed cognitive virus (an obsessive loop, infinite regress, or logical cul-de-sac working just like a computer virus, but within the realm of human thinking) - forestalling, in the process, all manner of potential mayhem. For Uncle Dave, the once-insidious cognitive-virus becomes channeled, through his work in Enactive-Modality Group, into the structure of a ringing and joyous banjo lick, with plenty of good old-time 'snap-in-the-wrist' (along with its Zen corollary, 'snap-in-the-mind') . |
