Kanaka Stew
3 lbs. short ribs of beef.
2 large onions (maui kine da best)
1 1/2 cup fresh poi
1 tsp salt (hawaiian kine)
water

Brown the short ribs of beef slightly. Add enough water to cover them up. Simmer until meat is tender, about 3 1/2 hours. Then add the poi and onions and heat till onions are done.

I have seen where my mom also used tomatoes so fresh or canned can be used. Consider the tomatoes optional.
