| This recipe is
one that removes the wait of having to use yeast in
cinnamon rolls. It's fast inexpensive and easy to make.
Can also be used with other fillings such as Guava Jam,
Mango Jelly, or even Papaya. I have made them all and
they are all delicious. For the Crust: 3 cups all purpose self rising flour 2 tbspn baking powder 1 tspn salt 1/2 cup shortening (Crisco or like substitute) 1 cup milk 1 1/2 tspn cinnamon 1 cup water For the filling: 2 1/2 tbspn butter 1 cup sugar Preheat oven to 375 degrees First sift all of the dry ingredients together. Now, mix in the shortening to make a coarse mixture. Gradually add the milk until a soft dough is formed. Roll the dough until its thin, but not as thin as you would for pie crust. Try to make it a little thicker (approx. 3/16in). After you complete the rolling butter the dough with soft butter (not melted), cover with 1/4 inch brown sugar and sprinkle with cinnamon (this can be based on how much cinnamon you like). Roll the dough up like you would a jelly roll and slice into circles approximately 1/2 inch thick. Next pour your water into a casserole dish and place the sliced dough into the casserole and bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown. JMR Note: As I had stated above, you can replace the brown sugar with Guava jam, Mango Jelly, or Papaya chutney or any other kine of tropical jelly/jam you like. |
