Holideck Mussels Up

4 cups water
1 lb. mussels
1/2 tsp. chopped garlic
2 tbsp. pickling spice
1/2 cup white wine
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
Drawn butter

Place four cups water in saucepan large enough to hold the water and the mussels. Bring water to boil. Add mussels and cover. Steam five minutes or until shells open.

In a saute pan, place garlic and pickling spices and dry saute on medium heat for one minute. Add wine and lemon juice. Reduce by half.

When the mussels are finished cooking, drain but reserve the liquid they were cooked in. Place them in a serving bowl.

To the wine and spice mixture, add one cup of the reserved broth. Return to a boil. Then pour back over the mussels.

Serve with drawn butter (if desired) and garlic bread.

Serves one.
