Miss Dolphin ~ "Mira"
thoroughbred mare
Miss Dolphin (who quickly acquired the barn name "Mira") is a 16.2 hand 1992 dark bay or seal brown thoroughbred mare who won over $30,000 at the track before retiring to become a broodmare.  The beginning of her story as my horse is my breeding story which you can read about here

I had only seen Mira in her fuzzy winter coat so I was surprised to receive her in August and find that in her summer coat, the mare I had selected partially for her solid color showed roaning above her tail and on her flanks... classic signs of rabicano.  Color genetics geeks can click the photos for larger versions.
Mira's first pasture buddy at Abbey Creek was Doc, Angelika's bay thoroughbred gelding.  They both lived outside all the time and quickly formed a very tight bond.  It is pretty rare for horses to be such good friends that they will share grain like this.  Doc was a horse who had problems relating to other horses but it took pregnant Mira no time at all to whip him into shape.  We were all sad to see Doc move to California with Angelika and Larissa but  I hear that Doc retained his newly found manners and is now friends with a Mustang.
Mira now shares her pasture with Rosalynn, Pippi and Carrie.  The photo above was taken on the first day Mira and Rosalynn met... they were happily showing off and chasing each other around.  In this photo you can't yet tell the difference between Mira's pregnant belly and Rosalynn's well fed roundness but by December, 2004 Mira was looking pregnant for sure and on January 1, 2005 I felt and saw her baby moving.  She was checked by Dr Alexander later that month who said that she was showing the classic pregnant mare shape.
